Hi Allan

Before I jump from my skin with joy - I would like to be sure I got it right :o

I have seen that LEDs can change their light intensity according to the BRIGHTNESS seeting on the LED setup page.

I also looked at the DIMMER example - and my old brain just made the one+ one = 2 trick ....

Does this say you can dim the LEDs via the FS2P5 ?

In case it does - do we need to get the special PHIDGETS LEDs / boards - or normal LEDS will do also ?

And another one - is there any specs for the POT that will be needed ?

Not very good with electronics - but I allow myself to believe once ina while

Thanks

Isaac,

You will need special hardware to dim leds, no matter what.
Regular Phidget Interfacekit will only switch led on and off.
You can buy led dimmers off eBay. Not that cjheap.

I am no electronics expert. The Phidgets Product Manual has all the electronic specs you will need.
Homework assignment: Read Phidget Product Manual.

Not sure what forum is best to take up electronic questions.
Hopefully, another contributer will chime in.

Alan

Oh boy - You just picked the wrong guy to mess with LOL :) (As I consider myself a manual guy it is...)

OK - Here we go:

FS2Phidgets5 manual, page 27:
Set the Brightness property to TRUE If the phisical device such as PhidgetsLeds support brightness control

1031 Phidgets LED 64-Advanced manual

page 5:
Each LED can be turned on and off and it's brightness controlled indipendently without using resistors.

Page 7 par 3 :
Use brighness slider to increase or decrease brighness

I assumed the red squares at your "DIMMER" example are LEDs since it says it's a digital output and a LED type (maybe I am wrong here).

For me - (dumb at electronics) brighness controll looks as good as dimming. Playing with your Dimmer example - I have seen you can assign to one switch a POT and then many LEDs. Moving the slider on the pot changes the brightness of the outputs.

So Logically speaking - I allowed myself to assume this can work- but in reality ??? Hmmm

Bur worth a try anyway

Cheers

Isaac,
Fs2Phidgets sits between the hardware (PhidgetLED-64, PhidgetsInterfacekit) and flight simuation software (Microsoft Flight Simulator or Laminar Research X-Plane). You are going to need some hardware to control leds. (dimmer boxes at specialized hardware store, eBay or PhidgetsLED64 ). Fs2Phidget5 has ability to build basic aircraft systems.

Red squares represet digital output with variable values (brightness). Digital Ouputs are intended to be assigned to LED-64 leds.

However, you had specific Phidget questions: What type of pot should you buy to connect to Phidget Interfacekit? Does Interfacekit dim leds?

Phidget Product Manuals have answers to both of those questions. Second question has been answered twice.

Alan

Hi Allan

OK - I think I get the idea.

I will need to examine all the options and see what will be best for my setup.

Thank you for your support
