I found a Cessna 172 full panel on line in Autocad format. Had it changed into a 1:1 size pdf that can be taken to a printer to make a full scale paper template, and thought I would share it with the community. Cost me about $7 USD to print it, a few ducats for some spray on adhesive and a sheet of MDF, and my panel is well on it's way.

Hope someone else can get some use from this.

Nice find :) and Thank You for sharing.

Can you post it in the downloads please? :)

Do you happen to have dimensions?

The thing is about 39 1/4" by 18 3/8"

Will try to figure out how to upload to the downloads section, thanks for the tip.

Thanks!

I added the .dwg file to the Downloads section as well, for anyone else that wants them.

Hey Alex. I could probably use those Gauge Bitmaps as well if you would like to send them my way too? I've been using ones gleaned from FSX so far. Not to bad but I'm thinking yours are probably better. BTW I put all my aviation related emails here c206_pilot@live.ca these days.

AK Mongo. Thanks loads for the U/L look forward to the DWG file. I've never put one of those in blender before (it is capable of importing such files) but for everything there is a first time. Love the PDF too. The 172 isn't exactly the same as the 206 but it's pretty close. Your drawing will help me in quite a few ways. I was working with an older version of the 206 manual. I've got the correct one on order. This will correct a few errors I've made in my drawing as they were best guesses to begin with (older manual - newer model)

Hi Everyone

Here is the 6 pack plus the tachometer, I can get a VOR if you want.

I will hopefully have the 4 pack engine cluster as bitmaps shortly.

Cheers.

This looks like the drawing from this blog (http://mycessnasim.blogspot.com/2007/03/cessna-172-panels.html) which is what I used for my panel as well.

AK Mongo

That is exactly where they came from. Would have given them credit had I remembered where they were from originally.

Many thanks for the gauges Alex!

Thanks for the gauge JPG's as well.

In case you are looking for others there is this PDF the FAA put out called the Instrument Flying Handbook (http://www.faa.gov/Library/manuals/aviation/instrument_flying_handbook/) that had some gauges in it too. As well Wikipedia has some too. This is the best of the lot though (public domain BTW)

Nice PDF. I'm doing a Mooney Bravo but I'll keep the PDF just in case. I was looking for gauge pictures some time ago when I had planned on creating my own (I'm using a monitor for my gauges). I ran across this site that has some very nice strait on, full size photos of the six pack plus some. May be of use to some of you.
www.chiefaircraft.com
Are the gauge drawings you're using for physical gauges or displayed gauges?
Here's a couple I made before I broke down and bought the RealityXP T and N gauge sets.
They work too.

Thanks for the link. I am still trying to decide whether to go mechanical gauges or projected. In the meantime, I am anxious to fill in the blanks in my instrument panel, so I am going to print out gauges and use them as dummies, so my panel looks better. Everything but the occasional flight has been put on hold though until after Little League season. 2 kids with 2-3 practices or games a week are killing my building time right now.

I did a quick look for Mooney Bravo pubs. From their website you can buy a Jumpdrive (USB Stick) with all their data on it (Parts Cat and POH) for the model you are building. The parts cat would be a great help. I don't know about the price of the jump drive?

You could jump in the Mooney (FSX or alternate designer) and take screen caps. Then resize them to the correct size using a gauge as a ruler (Standard Large Gauge is 79mm). I would suggest doing that in Virtual Cockpit as you can move about and so long as you're looking forward it's 2D.

Can you also send me the drawing as a CAD file? This for using it with a laser machine that can only read vectors lines.

Many Thanks

From the Simkits page you can also download a CAD drawings from C172 panel in real size:
http://www.simkits.com/brochures.php

(look at the bottom of the page)

I actually think they are the same drawing in as much as some one converted the Simkits drawing to PDF. They look identical to me anyway. The Simkits site is also good for many other drawings. Gauge dimensions and the like if you want to add any custom changes to your C172.

Hello, sorry about updating this post but when I print this by tiling over multiple pages, is it already in the correct size? (It says it is 49.6in by 46.77) That doesn't sound right to me. What are the actual dimensions of the entire document to print it out 1:1?

AK Mongo
08-07-2011, 10:59 AM
It prints out on Arch E paper which is 36x48. I did not try to tile as I wanted an easy to use cutting template. Actual dimensions of the panel are appx. 39.25" x 18.5".

I'm probably better sending it off to a local print shop then. Do you think it will be available in Australia?

AK Mongo

Can't really help you with Ozzie paper sizes, I am afraid. Would be worth an email to your printer to ask. Only cost about 7 USD to do. It was readily available in the US. If not, then someone who knows AutoCAD can take the .dwg file I posted and convert it to local paper size for you.

Found a printing service that does up to 841mm in width. If someone could nicely resize that so I will be able to print with these guys as it's only $8.20. They can go to any length.

Ronson2k9
08-08-2011, 09:22 AM
There is no need to re-size as their print size is bigger then the width of the drawing. At 841mm = 84.1cm = 33.64". The drawing is 18.25" so you have a margin 15.39" or 7.7" on the top and bottom.. If I remember correctly the drawing is formatted that way. You turned it so you can view it but when they print they won't do that. So they don't need anything from you but the pdf or dwg if they have Autocad (most likely) as large format printing is most common in blueprints.

They will charge you the same no matter how much width you use so you can take advantage of that and use the space for something else. Like the center console perhaps. The area where your trims are located.

Thanks for the upload, great help!

I'm surprising a good friend with the panel in mdf, as he discontinued his PPL, and he's dreaming of building a better simulator, but has about.. oh.. ten thumbs? :D

So, thanks again for the pdf!

(building speakers after plans I'm used to building after plans with dimensions on them, not to scale. Just printing it out and drawing on the mdf will be less work I expect, especially with this many holes :) )

AK Mongo

I have ten thumbs too. Sounds like you are a good friend and they will definitely owe you a frosty beverage.

Glad it will help,

Been searching to find what thickness you guys use for your instrument panel, but have not found anything. Does 12mm (1/2") mdf do the trick, or do you use thicker?

what thickness do you guys use for your C172 instrument panels?

I used 3/4" mdf, but should have gone lighter.

AK mongo, have you had trouble fitting the instruments?

I'm using .117 inch acrylic sheet.

Doesen't it flex? Or I guess it's attached to the frame in many enough places for it not to?

Acrylic sheet definitely must be reinforced or framed.

I've used 6mm mdf for both incarnations of my sim. It's currently in bits in my new garage and starting to warp in the slight damp air. I'd probably recommend avoiding MDF for this reason if there is a slight chance of more than normal humidity!

Louie, I'd like to chat about some of your components, is PM ok?

i use acryl sheet about 2-3mm tichness and have lens sametime, only need cut encoder holes and paint frontside (tape cover first all gauges place) and then spay paint.
bezell (if want use)can cut paper coffee cub edge. all has painted have wery real and good panell.
but i have proplem how much reside gauges at monitor smalled can adding all gauges to 17" monitor(2 monitor at gauges)
try test someday :( but no lot time:(
and proplem,no have 1:1 size after reside :(
just make ready flap position led indicator whit picaxe microcontroller, working fine. 5 led show were flaps have real panel near switch.(i use (on)-off(on) switch to panell. 6 point sw, right side connect to leo bodnar and use fs9 and left side connect to picaxe and show what you has bush, follow alltime switch were position flaps have.up-down.
sorry i write lot :D
same can use position indication led or servo and needle show position.
next need move basic picaxe code to arduino but no time lot make all now.
arduino have better can make many more same chip too, gears, switches etc more. link2fs must test more first.
