Has anyone heard anything about the new Immersaview application called NTHUSIM (en-thu-sim)? It apparently has some new features over Sol7 that make alignment more automated and easy. I just received an e-mail from them announcing it. Their site is located at www.nthusim.com
It looks pretty interesting, it's just that this is the first I've heard of it.

I think very few people will have heard of it as they are telling existing Sol7 HomeSim users of it's release first. I got my invitation to download today too. I've downloaded, but not installed on the FS PC yet.

I think this is absolutely marvelous, a company designs a unique product like this just for our hobby. I've used the older version and am completely impressed with what it can do. I know several builders have this product in use and love it.

The following is there press release:

We have exciting news of a new product called NTHUSIM (en-thu-sim). NTHUSIM has been designed to provide simulation visuals for home enthusiasts.

At this stage the access to the website is by invitation only while we make the final touches. You can sign up to be notified as soon as the site is officially launched. Simply go to http://www.nthusim.com/ and sign up!

NTHUSIM will be available in two flavors, “Standard edition” and “Plus edition”. The Standard edition is designed for single-projector applications, while the Plus edition also supports up to three projectors under Matrox eXpansion and ATI Eyefinity setups.

Hi friends, anyone being invited to try NTHUSIM and successfully got the demo working on Windows 7 64 bit? Though I learnt from Andy of ImmersaView that the official release will only support 32bit Windows 7, I would like to see any success story on 64 bit before setting up a 32 bit Windows 7 for further testing. On my PC with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, so far I can set up the warping but just the sims cannot pick it up. Thanks.

Got my invite and downloaded the software,
Sadly I can't get the software to work with XP. I only just now found out that it is only for
windows 7.

That's not the case, on their website it says:

Compatible with:

* ATI Eyefinity
* Matrox eXtender modules
* Windows XP 32bit
* Windows Vista 32bit
* Windows 7 32bit

Thanks flightdeck
Had to download d3dx9_42dll to get it to work, but for some reason the activate log in isn't working. Its been awhile since I used the sol7 demo how do I get the software to work while in the game?

Run the sol7 first, load or make corrections as necessary, then press the escape key to minimize it to the background.

Then run FS. Remember it only works in full screen mode.

Thanks heaps for that Sean,

With the standard addition software, using just one projector how much of a curved screen could I get away with, and would using a curved mirror help at all.

Not really sure Rhys. I'm using three projectors so never really tried it with one, how much curve are you thinking of? And I've no experience with mirrors (or fresnel lenses) at all.

What I could do, as there are a few people who may benefit from this, is try differing combinations of screen width, curvature, number of projectors, etc, etc, as I have 3 short throw projectors, a 'normal' projector, a TH2G (and therefore a DH2G) and a large room (and therefore a small room) and post the findings. If this would be of use to anyone, or there's a particular setup you would like me to 'experiment' with, let me know, I'll try and help out. It's frusrating not knowing whether a particular setup will work, understandibly not wanting to fork out loads of cash on something that may not work out!

Guys,

Have to jump in and correct something...

This method is NOT recommended by NTHUSIM developers. Please use this link in the Wiki Page to
update your DirectX whilst installing your version of NTHUSIM...

Its easy and safe :)

Thanks Nat
I am using windows XP home so the dx10 is not an option for me unless I upgrade to windows 7.

Hi Sean, thanks for that, my budget will only stretch to one budget projector.
It would be great to have a section where people can post setup options to from 1-3 plus projectors screen types using curved mirrors, frensel lenses etc.. everyones budget is different so I guess its a case of starting small and experimenting to see just how far you can push what you have.

I'm not sure about XP, but I got mine working with Vista 32bit. There was a point where it sent me to the DirectX download page. I'm using DirectX 9, but it was as though it needed to download it again. I did, and it worked fine after that, but did not work until I physically re-downloaded DirectX 9 from the Nthusim setup prompt.

At one point, I had to change my monitor configuration and re-install Nthusim again for it to recognize my new setup and yet again had to re-download DirectX9 when it prompted me to. Good Luck!

Has anyone else not received their invite? Is there a large time lag, by chance? I haven't purchased SOL7, as I was waiting for this. I'm reading and reading and waiting to try it myself.

Thanks!

I know it says its not recommended that you install d3dx9_42 but that seems to have got the software working. I will try it at home tonight

I think the invite went out to previous purchasers of Sol7. You might contact them though and tell them your dillema. You never know!

I was using 3 projectors with a well bent curve in the front...basically a "U" shape. I've gone to a single 3D ready projector and a flat front screen since then. For me, the 3D effect eliminates the need for the side projectors. The larger the curve, the more unfocused your image will be on the sides which I was ready to do away with. Also, there is not a need to make the curve any greater than what your in game field of view will be anyway. I also like larger scenery, it's much more immersive than being zoomed all the way out and this will reduce your required screen FOV as well. A little bit of curve won't hurt, but I would shoot for less curve than more. As a side note, front projection helps the focus issue quite a bit vs rear projection.

Here's a pic of my "U" shape from a little angle off center of the middle projector. This is rear projection, so the cockpit is behind the screen. You can see that the image starts to fade as the side projector takes over well before where the curvature ends.

Thanks airhog great setup.
Took your advise Nat and downloaded the directx updates for xp ,deleted the dll file I downloaded tried the sotfware in the sim and it works great.

Looking forward to getting around to using it with one projector and a curved screen to see how much Peripheral view I can acheive.

If you have a registered copy of Sol7 you should of received an invite to the new website and have an offer to upgrade to NTHUSIM.
