Airbus and Lufthansa Technik AG have signed a preliminary agreement covering the outfitting of cabins for the double-deck A380, paving the way for sales and marketing of private aircraft versions of the world's largest and most modern airliner.

With two separate decks and the widest cabin of any airliner, the Airbus A380 offers the ultimate in business and private aircraft, with the most spacious interior available.

Both government and VIP versions of the A380 are envisaged, with the aircraft being able to handle the biggest official delegations or the largest businesses and families.

"We relish the challenge of outfitting a private jet version of the world's largest airliner, the Airbus A380, whose tremendous space and volume offer almost limitless possibilities," says Lufthansa Technik Senior VP Sales and Marketing Walter Heerdt. "Whatever customers want - a flying penthouse, a hotel and conference centre, or something completely different - we have the experience and resources to provide it."

"We have always had specialised cabin outfitters, as the network for the Airbus Corporate Jetliner (ACJ) family, including Lufthansa Technik, shows," says Airbus VP Executive and Private Aviation Richard Gaona. "In extending this approach to the larger Airbus A380, we are delighted to be working with Lufthansa Technik, with its extensive and proven capability to outfit large private aircraft - such as the A340."

Airbus recommends the use of approved cabin outfitters for all of its aircraft but, as always, the choice of cabin outfitter rests with the customer. It remains open to working with other cabin outfitters on the Airbus A380.

Designed to use existing airports - it can take-off and land in less distance than today's largest aircraft - the Airbus A380 has access to most of the world's cities. The Airbus A380 is also a good neighbour, generating only about half the noise of today's largest airliner.

Airbus has the world's most modern family of private and executive aircraft, which ranges from the ACJ all the way up to the 21st Century flagship A380.

All Airbus passenger aircraft in production today feature advanced fuel-saving aerodynamic design, including wingtip fences, new weight-saving materials such as carbonfibre, cost-saving centralised maintenance, the latest fuel-efficient engines, and the lower training costs and greater operational flexibility of a common cockpit.

Airbus is an EADS joint company with BAE Systems.
