Thanks for the compliments!
Yes i planned to upholster the seat, i've bought the foam already but it's expensive to make the pillow upholsters, i'm now figuring out how to, and tomorrow i go to the market to get the fabric.

Hi John,

I made the seat from an idea which i found on Simflight.com:
http://www.flightsim.com/main/howto/727seat.htm

It was just the base construction because the drawings where not complete
and the construction was basicaly based on american sized materials.
We spend lot of time to figure out the final construction with materials from the Karwei/Gamma/Praxis.

I can assist you by supply you the dimensions i used to construct your seats..
I'm living in Leusden so this is not so far away from Lelystad, if you like, you can visit my sim to measure up the neccessary details.

Regards from Bas

I'd be interested in those dimensions too :) The Praxis and especially the Gamma have made a fortune off me already :) .. and there is still such a long way to go!

Oh, . I'm in Almere, .. just around the corner too :)

Cheers,

Andrew.

Bas,

since I'm planning on this one myself I got some measurements from Steve but I'd like to cross check them with your dimensions before I go to the Gamma. Could you please fill me in? Thanks. Do you have a close up pic of the FMC as well??;)

I've started to make some drawings but comparing it to the drawing of Steve the dimensions are very similar. I don't think it makes any sense investing lot's of time creating new detailed drawings and a building description.

A complete no nonsense building package can contain:
- Shopping list.
- Drawings of all separate parts.
- Assembly description.

Of course i will measure up some specific dimensions you like to know.

Be patient, if i find the time, i will create some documentation.

If the figures are the same indeed there is no need. Save your time for more inportant things but if you have some tips & trics (or do's & don'ts), I'm sure we all can benefit.

I myself am interested in the arm rests and their construction and the text that seems to be on the side and back.

Hi JWS,

The construction of the arm rests: Main axis with a bold (8mm) and nuts, alumunium pipe (inside 8mm/10mm outside dia.) metal plates (round with 8mm hole).
The arm rest are made of 3 layers if 18mm MDF.
To lock the arm rests in the outer positions see the attached pictures.
The text plaques are also on the pics.

How did you do the text?

JWS

KLM077
01-04-2010, 04:26 PM
Hi JWS,

The text plaques:

1. I Googled around to have the correct text on "737 cockpit".
2. Determined the approximate dimensions of the plates.
3. Draw them in Adobe Illustrator.
4. Print them on an Inkt Jet Printer.
5. Cover the plated with matt transparant foil (prevent fading away the text after a landing in the Hudson River).
6. Glue them on the seat where you like (used water based Pritt for easy replacement, yea, in conjunction with point 5....)

Hi KLM077,

Nice looking seat  - must get mine finished but I must say yours does look good, nice ideas about the way to restrict the movement on the arm rests too.

Any chance you would upload the pdf to the site so others could print it too?

I was thinking that - makes the mdf look like metal :D
Bet it was a lot of sanding first!

A flashmob!

We can also assemble at my place in a couple of weeks. Kinsy and I are planning to make the newer Ipeco seats instead of the Webers.

http://www.lekiuk.com/cd-images/RESIZED/Seats%20-%20passenger%20and%20crew/737%20seats/crew%20seats/ipeco%20737%20seat%20002.jpg

The drawings are almost ready. We can have the entire workshop of a guy who makes custom kitchens for the ritch. So while we're there, we make 4 seats in 1 go.

I wish I lived around the corner from Leylstad! Perth is the world's most isolated city, it costs a small fortune to go anywhere.
They certainly are great looking crew seats, well done and thank you for sharing with the community. Your pit looks great, I would suggest fitting some temporary black curtains to the sides and overhead. You will be blown away with how much the emersion factor increases, I did this during my sim build and and I was so disappointed that I hadn't done it sooner!

Cheers and Regards,

Gwyn

Anychance of making a couple more in bouwpakket form? Ie, just the wood cut to size, .... I have no problem assembling them but my jigsaw and I aren't the best of friends when it comes to precision work. Of course I would pay for the wood and the extra bit for your labour... :-)

LOL! It looks as if those seat photographs are taken outside someones garage at home. Not very professional for a company selling seats to Boeing for 28k each!

You must see that differently Sean. They're based in one of those beautiful historical industrial estates which you only see in the UK

Now almost ready to fly, with the pillows.
I borrowed a sewing machine and spend one week (every evening) to do the job.
For sure a sewing professional can do it in a fraction of this time ;-)

Maybe i arrange some seat belts to make the chair complete.
And the arm rests have to be upholstered also i think...or am i'm goi'n to far :???:

Hi Capetonian,

Thanks for the feedback on the "Seat project".
Wel i don't have the room to make the seat as a kit in a larger number.
I spend almost three weeks in a workshop in the backyard of a friend of mine.
However if you have the intention to spend many hours building
a seat I can provide you with the information to help you.

Cheers

Very nice Bas. These look like they're made from the standard seat plans available on the net (and here at Mycockpit I think?), but a damn nice representation though. How are you hinging and holding the armrests in the down position? Also I see they're on castors, do you intend running them in channels and locking them into place etc.?

Ken.

KLM077

Hi Ken,

Thanks for your reply.

There are existing drawings but i changed the design during the building proces.
Roughly i used the following drawings and description :
http://www.flightsim.com/main/howto/727seat.htm

The arm rests have a bold and an extra piston sticking out below the rest to keep the arm rest up, simple but effective. First we experimented with an internal construction but this was too light to keep the rest at it's place.

http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2672&stc=1&d=1262635239
http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2671&stc=1&d=1262635239

The castors are just lockable and we've not the intention to run the hole seat on a rail. Before take off i just lock the wheels but it's not quite nessesary because the seat won't ride away anyway.

Cheers

Bas
