Hi Ross,
If you are researching how to build a simulator from the ground up
you realy need a few good resorce websites.
have a look at www.737ng.co.uk
most of what you want to know is here.
if you follow the links here they will help you understand how to
visualise a simulator
there are several ways to build a sim so first you have to look at the buget
Its possible to build an impresive simulator using Microsoft Flightsim 9 (century of flight)
you will also req some add on software to connect real switches and instruments to flight sim.
there are lots of ways to do this so expect to get different answers from different builders.
displaying multiple views for scenery and instruments also reqs add on software so google the following
fsuicp
wideview
project magenta
www.flyware.nl
open cockpits
cpflight
all these will help you

Good look
