Cubicle-Like Enclosure

Hello guys.

I've decided for cost not to "enclose" my cockpit with a shell, fancy cockpit door, all that expensive stuff, but rather to put the simulator in a corner of a room and put cubicle walls (with maybe a door) on the two remaining sides.

I've done countless searching but can not seem to find regular old simple one-coloured (preferably white or blue) cubicle walls, let alone with a door. Everything these days appears to be fancy tropical woods and such.

Can somebody help me with this one?

Yeah it's nice to be enclosed, but if you have a dark room, it's hard to tell the difference whether you're in a shell or not. It's all the other stuff that keeps your eyes busy. Nice MIP, Glareshield, Overhead and pedastal, etc. :)

Yup, that's exactly the effect I'm going for by using a cubicle.

By having this little "room of it's own", I wont be disturbed out outside lighting.

It shouldn't be to hard to build partitions to isolate where your sim is set up. A few 2x4's and some hardboard (masonite) then paint as you like. If you wanted to you could put the logo of your aircraft manufacturer or airline on it?

The masonite is pretty light and your only building a partition to perhaps be moved/removed later. So with that in mind you can design them so they can fit together when stacked against a wall. They wouldn't be load bearing so the most expensive part is the paint if you should decide to paint them.

One 8' x 8' Partition

4 - 4x8 pieces of Hardboard (masonite) 2 on the outside and 2 on the inside
5 - 2x4x8 boards (2x4's) for the support
16 - drywall screws
Paint as desired (remembering to put a primer coat(s) first as needed perhaps 2)

In North America it's about $36.00 for the hardboard and $15.00 for the 2x4's so if you add paint it's about $80.00 approx. for the partition. If want sound deadening then that would go up but most times you would be getting most if not all your sound through your headset.

Making one would be much cheaper and perhaps easier then buying a ready made. You can then customize with a pocket door on one end if you like to look like the entrance to the flight deck or that of simulator entrance as you see fit.
