Hello guys.
I'm currently wondering how "Cold and Dark" the A320 really is when in the "Cold and Dark" state.
Are Packs and Engine Bleed turned off in a real cold and dark sittuaton? Or are these not used in Standard Opperating Procedures? What about the Galley power, Access Feed, and Bus Tie?
And finally are the hydraulic Green and Yellow pumps, the blue elec pump, and the PTU switch on or off in a cold and dark state during SOP?
Thanks for the help. Since I'm building an A320 for SOP use only, I'm trying to figure out what to include, etc.

I moved this post to the Airbus Discussion category, since our residential A320 Pilot (Dodiano) parks his A320 here :) :) :)

Packs and Engine Bleed are all Automatic! Actually the switch is always in AUTO position when no lights Illumintade that is why the legend on the switch reads FAULT/OFF cause when it is not lit it is ON in Automatic...On the SOP you don't press the switches they are always activated in the normal position you only press them if you have a Failure and you have to turn it off as per ECAM instructions!
Same Story with the Hydraulics you never touch those on cockpit preparation.... Basically on Cockpit preparation you touch the FUEL pumps CVR On switch the IRS etc....
Cold and Dark cockpit on the Bus is that most system are turned on Automatic by default Hydraulics, Generators, Packs and Bleed you don't touch them unless you are making a procedure or following an ECAM.

Thanks very much for your help!
I now know exactly what to "cut" in my overhead panel for my A320 SOP simulator.

One other thing.
Is the Flaps 3 LDG PB used at all in SOP?
By SOP again, I mean any kind of normal flight without an emergency. So even if it's not used in every flight (IE A318 steep approach), as long as it's not for "emergency use only" I'd consider it SOP.

Yes FLAPS 3 is used for landing with FLAP 3 in normal operations with Gusting winds or just to save some fuel so it is used all the time... Never heard about Steep aproaches on Airbuses what you mean with Steep approach?

I'm not sure exactly how the Steep Approach PB works, but I know that some A318s (its an airline option) are equiped with it. No idea where either, but I know that it exists.
An example would be that all A318s into London City must be equipped with it (from what I've heard).
I think it's in the FCOM somewhere, and there's an article about in on SmartCockpit.com

Nope Sorry that doesn't exist what you mean is EXPED which is Expedite Climb or Descent!! But it is not for steep approaches!

Couple of new questions regarding SOP:
Are the generators manual to turn on (they are off when the aircraft is cold and dark), or are they also automatic?
And is airconditioning/cabin temperature generally controled by the FAs at the FA station, or is it done in the cockpit?

Gen switches are left on. They will auto-connect when engine are at idle speed.

A few more questions actually that have come to mind. These, of course, refer to SOP.
1. Is the NW STRG/ANTI SKID always left ON?
2. Is the APU GEN switch ever turned off?
3. Are ENGINE BLD switches ever turned off?
4. Is the Yellow Elec pump turned "ON" at any point?
5. Is "HOT AIR" ever turned "OFF"?
Thanks!

1. Off only during pushback, other than that, its left "ON".
2. This sw stays in the "On" or "in" position. Turned off during irrergalars
3. Eng Blds are "On" or "In" position
4. Yes, During push back, yellow system for parking brake and steering.
5. No, tis sw is left "On" or "Auto", this controls the cargo heat PRV for trim air
Hope this helps
