Current status of my pit

Most of the work lately has been in the software department. The biggest hardware change lately was the moving of a speaker to a location more on the side of the pit so that the general engine and aircraft sounds did not seem to be coming from the front.

Here I am tonight sitting in the takeoff que at FlyTampa's wonderful Kai Tak airport in the early morning mist. Was flying circuits there to just enjoy the scenery. Man, do those 747's kick up some wake turbulence in ActiveSky 6.5!!!!! My little 146-200 was getting knocked around if I got too close.

Glass cockpit 146 looks great. Good to see someone actually do some flying rather than building too....

When i bought scenery for Kai Tak it was amazing. This was about 3 years ago now. And it was the aerosoft i think it was. Not the FlyTampa.

I did exactly what you did when i got the scenery, just circuiting for an hour or so admiring the great scenery and textures and seeing what i could find on the ground.

It has a realy good built in 'night environment also' for that small Hong Kong area which is nice too.

Having Ultimate Night Environment now means i get to enjoy the night light everywhere though now :)

I have a fondness for the BAE146 series. If you electrify (Glass) the cockpit though doesn't it become an RJ. It's to bad that after 911 BAE went out of business.. They were only able to sell the remaining RJ's they had in production at the time. I think I would tend toward the Glass version you have though over the Analog 146-100. For ease of construction.

I'm starting out slightly smaller then that with a Cessna TU206G.

You got great looking pit to be sure.

One of the things that I decided early on was that since this "aircraft" is mine.... the cockpit can be whatever I want. I'm spending the money on it. I really like the overall concept of the 146 series........but I am not tied to the cockpit necessarily.

So my pit is really "generic".

The 146 cockpits are beautiful, but if I had tried to do an actual replica.... I would have run out of money long ago.

Hey hey that's okay ;) Not being critical just wondering if you had an RJ on your hands? They aren't to different from the 146. I like the fact though that the 146 can fly passengers or cargo as TNT uses it for their air courier shipments. I love those big orange birds. Only thing though is that it's in Europe mostly that flying happens.

Like you perhaps I like aircraft that can fill many roles. From a cockpit building standpoint you aren't then kind of stuck doing one kind of flying all the time. While many planes can do both cargo and passenger. There are those aircraft that are built from the beginning to fill those roles as the 146 does. As with me I'm building a Cessna TU206G Amphibious. So I can do land or water, cargo or passenger. The turbo has a shorter range but shorter take off roll so it can get out tighter spots. A higher workable ceiling as well to get over weather. Important in bush flying.

I'm building a modular MIP so I can perhaps one day swap out my analog gauge group for the Garmin 1000 EFIS. Much like the actual Cessna. I've been looking online to find how to do all the construction. I know I want to use LCD's for the instruments for both cost savings and the fact I don't want Carenados panel/gauges to go to waste when I'm building the cockpit around it. But change is the one constant in the universe so I may one day want a 'Glass' version in my Virtual Cessna..

I'd love to see some more pics of your simpit. I know from other posts photography is one of the things you don't like all that much. Still your 146 looks really cool.

Thanks guys. The project is at 5 1/2 years now and is still not done.

Yeah, it is a nice flying plane. The model is Jon Murchison's and the panel is Matthia Liebrecht's. The flight dynamics I'm using are a combination of folks including HJGs.

It can handle short fields pretty well. (My goal is to eventually get it safely into Lukla. ;) ) It is basically a CRJ type aircraft.... but with 4 engines. I mostly fly 1 to 2 hour routes, so it is perfect.

That 4 engine format sort of allows the pit to change over to a 747 easily (hardly ever done that).

I'll see if I can get more pictures up eventually.
