HI Guys am putting together a buy list of bits to make a GPS unit based on Reality XP Software.and My Hagstrome KE72 Encoder Card.i did have at one time a PSONE 5" LCD but stripped it dowm to make a Projector.and so removed the backlight. D'oh now kicking myself as for the price i could have gotten 2 :-( so been looking around E-bay and at the moment it seems to me that the price has trippled to £75 ish inc postage ( Ouch ) anyways the question is can i use any 5 - 8" lcd/TV monitor that has an AV input to be driven by a Cheap PCI card running alongside my 8800GT 512Mb graphics card or does anyone know of a UK source for these PSone LCD's Cheers

Hi,
If your VGA card has SVideo output or any video outputs (special connector
like ASUS has) apart from the VGA\DVI output and the LCD TV had AV in,
it should work with no problem.
I have a friend with a F16 pit with 3 7" CAR LCD TVs with AV in.

Cheers,
Ran.

I suppose it depends on your view of a sensible price. Rather than pay Opencockpits 85 euros for one new screen, in the last few days I have won on Ebay 2 secondhand screens complete with console etc (which can be sold off separately) for a total of £72 plus postage. Keep trying and good luck

Hi

Hope we haven`t been competing ;) Mind you, what I did not say was that some weeks ago I won one auction for two consoles, but did not realise that the screen was not an integral part!! Anyone want some consoles?

Dave,

If you still need a screen, let me know. I have one that I modded. I didn't end up using it because I couldn't get it to sync well enough with my NVidia cards.

I'd be happy to send it on to you for the cost of shipping. Unfortunately, I won't be home until about the end of May, so you would need to wait until then.

Either way, let me know

A very kind offer indeed. I think Wannabeflyer has the first call, but if it is ok with him, I would love to have the screen for either the overhead voltage or clock displays. If Wannabeflyer is still trying to get a screen, then he should have first preference, he should presumably get notice of these additions to the thread.

If he does not now need the screen, then the end of May is fine - actually, I am in the USA then for the Indy 500!

hi guys just an update more a when it rains it pours sorta thing :-) anyways at long last my e-bay luck paid off basically won and am now the owner of 2 LCD monitors ( TV/Monitors) one is a MAXIM MX11-46 5.5" screen and the other is a U48 7" ( Still Searching for full spec on that one as no documentation was supplied ) both bought for reasonable prices and major Factor both work Great :-) only Downside with The 7" Monitor is it appears to have a Non standard S-Video input plug so wil be poking around the insides to to able to connect it to my Video Card ...the Othe Maxim Model has a standard S-video input teste and seems fine but yet to connect them to my Graphics Card ( Will Probebly buy a Cheap Card with TV out just to drive My GPS Build ) still Looking for PSOne as that seems to be the unit of choice but went for the bird in the hand so i can experiment :-)

fordgt40,

You bet...

Sorry wannabeaflyer, I thought you had hooked up with a screen. Of course the offer is extended to you also. How's your project going? My wife called a few days ago and told me the front panel had arrived and that it looks good. Less than a month and I can get home and finish up my GPS! I'll update the original post with pics then.

Hi David Sorry it took so long to answer belive it or not was bidding on ebay for psone unit and the missus asked me to pick her up form a frineds house and would you not know it in my rush i forgot to put a bid in and the bloody thing went for the kinda money i wanted to pay Bummer and Then some ... that was another fishing expedition as they say no loss just annoyning that i did not get the same unit that Warren used in his project, But i will say that i'll try the 2 monitors that i have now and see how it goes so if warren still has his unit for sale feel free to go for it :-) guys big thanks for considering me for this, when i get my arse in gear and out of info gathering and CNC learning and general wishing/dream state i'll post some pic's :-)

I could not possibly take advantage of your wife messing up your Ebay bidding!

So, I withdraw and let you take up Warren`s offer. Hope it all works out ok

Has anybody tried on of these monitors?

Doug

I checked out the link, however, these monitors are not much use for displaying gauges as they cannot handle Direct X or OpenGL through the USB connection. Their website says

"Any software that requires 3D hardware acceleration cannot be displayed properly on USB monitors including Mimo. This includes RealPlayer (in Expansion Mode), games with 3D graphics, and programs based on the DirectX or OpenGL graphics engines. Other multimedia players including Windows Media Player will work with Mimo monitors."
