Does anyone know what this connector is?

This is a 12V power connector for a CockpitSonic USB transponder.

I bought a complete B737 pedestal from them close to a year ago. They forgot to provide power to the transponder. It took the better part of six months of repeatedly emailing them and asking for the appropriate replacement parts so I could wire it up myself.

They sent one of these connectors. I need another one and I don't want to wait another six months to get it.

Does anyone know what this connector is called? If I only knew what it was, I could just order it from the internet.

It's commonly called a Molex connector. Molex is the original company that developed these, but it's become a generic term for this type of connector.

Much like Kleenex has come to mean any sort of tissue.

Mouser probably has one of these that you won't have to wait six months for.

That's inexcusable. Six months for a fricken cable? I'd be so outraged they'd never get another dime of my money.

I just chopped two of them off an old PC power supply for my cockpitsonic breakout board, it worked a treat.

The are basically D-shaped directional connectors which can be found on any old PC power supply unit, these are the type that connect from the psu to the motherboard.

Michael, thanks, I had a feeling it was a Molex connector, so I sent the same pictures to Mouser tech support to see if they can tell the part number.

David, thanks, good idea about the PC power supply. Now I just need to hit the PC boneyard at my office to find one.

Mouser turned out to be of no help whatsoever. I sent them the same three photos asking them to help me figure out what the connector is so I could buy it, and they replied asking me to send a better description of the part. I wrote back asking them what they meant... no reply. I guess they're not really interested in small sales like this.

Does anyone know of a good site or vendor for identifying Molex connectors? Even the Molex site is not very helpful in this regard.

Go to the Mouser site and type in these part numbers: 571-14450223, 571-1721661. Either of these may be the connector you are looking for.

If not, it gets you in the ballpark and in the correct section of the catalog. Browse through the on-line catalog and check the .pdf's when available.

Michael, thanks, I downloaded the whole catalog. Some of the AMP/Tyco connectors are similar, but I don't think they're the same thing. No luck with the Molex connectors. Cockpitsonic seems to be responding to this thread, so hopefully I'll have a part number sometime soon.

I made a lucky guess from the Mouser catalog. The connector turned out to be this:

Seems like a version of Molex' 5557-03R2 / 3901-4030 CRIM.
Hope that information is to any help. I tried to find the same contact, but couldn't spot it at www.elfa.se (select European Union for english language).

Unfortunately, I've got the same experience with Cockpitsonic - sometimes they're fast on delivery, but most times there will be hick-ups. This goes for the German company; I haven't dealt with CS USA.

The Tyco/AMP part number is 794186-1.

This definitely fits, there may be others. Thanks for looking, I consider this problem solved at this point.
