Hello,
Does anybody here have any experience with opencockpit's USB outputs card?

I currently use the USB outputs card and am driving its power via USB (PC power supply). My card works fine, but wish to attach it to a external 5 volt source to reduce the drain on my PC power source.

My question has to do with the jumper configuration...........

Currently, I have jumper 1 "open" and jumper 2 "closed".
What should my configuration be to use external power?

The reason I am so confused is that the users manual says the following;

"When the optional external power source is not connected, JMP1 must be
closed (this way the power will be taken from the USB port) and JMP2 must be open.

If we want to connect an external power source (+5 volts DC), JMP1 must be opened."

I already have jumper 1 open, as this was the only way it worked.??

Does anybody here have experience with this card as I really dont want to fry it ?

Thanks,

~Polmer

I use the USB output card to drive all my overhead LEDS,

I use 5 volts from a power supply as there is not enough power to drive all leds from the usb output.

As regards to the jumpers, i have jumper 1 open and jumper 2 closed.

I am using 2 LEDS per annunciator on the overhead with a total load per output of 40ma.

This is a very reliable output card.

cheers

Thanks Andy,

I hook up the external power with "jumper 1 open and jumper 2 closed" and see what happens......hopefully no smoke......

Hi Polmer,

I just saw that you got an answer on the same question on their forum.

Solution:

JMP1: open
JMP2: closed

"Connect +5V /GND ext power at the rightmost connector with the word POWER below it (it is the jumper that is closest to the corner of the board); be aware that +5 V is the pin closest to the corner."

My LEDs are now much brighter,....ahhhh

Thanks Andy & Nico !
