They had a third runway. I don't know why they either didn't rebuild it or upgrade it.

Im all for the 3rd Runway!
I just cant stand them eco groups trying to stop it!
Not going to be ready until 2019, so plenty of time to update your scenery!
Look out for any news on Stansted Airport (London) progress on their application for their second runway, again eco groups are trying to stop it!
At one time i remember Ryanair wanted to buy that airport when BAA had to choose an airport to sell, could you imagined if that happened!

ah that got the go ahead then! first i've heard. I saw on TV this morning it's today then decide. I've known about it for a while.
With expanding population and therefore air travel it is vital the 3rd runway has the goahead.
I did hear too though that only the most eco friendly, quietest airliners will be using it.

More flights = more jobs and maybe cheaper flights too.....
There are so many newly trained pilots looking for work because of so many airlines going bust over the last year.
Again we do need another runway in London, and at Stansted too, ive heard that Heathrow is fully maxed out and has been for a while, Stansted is pretty much full too, i know that airlines that went bust that had slots at Stansted, were filled up within minutes of becoming available! Just shows how much we need more runways!
Thats my view anyway!

Incredible as it may seem alexpilot ,a lot of the people protesting
are going to lose their homes, or even worse be under the flight track.
I suppose you could ease some of the suffering by buying one of the
houses affected .
In a democracy it is every persons right to protest

Time will tell mate
By the end of the Decession (which is far worse than a Recession, but not as bad as a Depression)
the Airline Industry will have its back to the wall.

No Chance of this ever being built in a lot of our lifetimes. Lets be honest about the fact terminal 5 was given the go ahead in 1993 and it was opened last year. The implications of this are huge and this will only go ahead if the Current government stays in power and General election will have to happen within a year!! No chance unfortunatly!!
Im very much pro expanding of Heathrow as it is "the" HUB airport for europe ( no matter what the french say about CDG or the dutch about schipol...sorry stef) And it would also make my life easier as a pilot!! Its vital to Europe.
Problem is though that Heathrow is already a nightmare and probably the worst airport in the world to fly into or through! I know us plane lovers like it but it is a huge pain in the arse! both from logistics, timetables and quality of the central terminals (although Terminal 1 is currently being re-built) The only good thing it has is close proximity to the Centre of the City.
If I am still flying and heathrow gets the 3rd runway in its current plans Il eat my pilots hat!
And Might I add that at this point in time there is not a lot of pilots trying to find work. In the vast majority of the world (America not included) Airlines are crying out for pilots and many new-hires are getting almost straight into the left seat!! If you have the money to train I would do it now!!! :-)

Your right Phil, only thing was Manchester airport has a lot more space around it. Planning permission for 2nd runway at Manchester was placed in 1988 approved in 1997 and opened in 2001 I think!

It took 30+ years to get a civilian runway open for joint use a Scott AFB.
I was one of the first to land on it.
It's called Mid America Airport now...along with Scott AFB on the other side.
