Compliments to Roberto for his work.

Received real columns today from Nick at APHS (great guy btw) and Roberto's yokes fit as they were originals.

Mounting them really couldnt be any easier !

For all who wondered if it would fit: well...it fits perfectly.

Stef

Thats looking very good Stef. Are you going to use the original mechanism between the yokes (for aileron) ?.

Hi Ivar,

I dont have the interconnecting parts between the 2 columns...so i will have to think of something myself there.

Wow!! This is amazing we actually never tried it before!! We only cast the part as accurate as we could in hopes we could replicathe the part on the Real Stands to interconnect!! Excellent news!!

Nick has those interconnecting collars. Way down at the bottom of the page with all the priced parts.

Great looking stuff!

I also have a pair of Robertos yokes and I am more than happy with them. Perfection springs to mind.

Be warned Stef... those columns are aluminium alloy so if you plan to weld a connector rod on it needs specialist welding. And if you go that way be very careful about heat damaging the bearings in the bottom of the columns - can cause them to seize very easily and this will cause binding when you turn the yokes left/right,

And don't try to use bolts to do the job - been there, done that!

im hoping to do it without welding.

What problems did your run into with bolts ?

ive seen so many approaches allready to this. everybody seems to do it differently.

Regards,

my compliments Roberto...its nut just close when it comes to fitting, but its an EXACT fit !!

Awesome job !

All i have to do is cut a hole in the front of the yoke and i can even use the original mounting plate and nut that comes with the column.

You're right, this thread as of this post only has had 311 views :( But it has happened, others have posted pictures and they get hit hard with the BW.

BTW Stef, in case you haven't noticed I posted your pic here :) :) :)

Stef - on each end we tried 2 bolts through the collar at the bottom of the column - set at 90 degrees to each other. But such is the shape and size of the collar that its vey difficult to get a connecting tube to fit snugly and for the bolts to hold it so there is no free-play when the whole thing is moved. Needs a mechanical engineer me thinks!

i will make sure not to rush things here. Maybe i will try to source the original interconnecting parts.

Boys and girls,

Has anyone tried to make thread in the bottum of the collumn so you can just screw the crossover linkage into place? (just a quick thought)
