Hi all,

I just thought id share with you all my recent experience is the wicked world of the web.

Those of you who have flightsim based businesses and spend every other spare time in this forum would understand the sweat and tears that goes into developing your own products and how hard it is to build a business. Now imagine someone coming in, within the same industry and using your business name to drive business to their site.

What exactly am i getting at, well today while working away on my 737 TQ i get a call from a customer pointing out to me that someone has stolen my business domain name. Wasnt too happy i must say, every other spare name for my business ( .com , .net etc) was registered by a competitor and was directing traffic to their site, but using my name to do it. Nice Hey !!!!

Anyways what im saying is that those of you who have business invested in the industry make sure you've got all your bases covered, i know there are alot of you here and i know the hard work you have all put into your products and id hate to see the same thing happen to you guys. So make sure you cover your bases.

Ok glad ive got that off my chest, back to the TQ, will be posting images soon.

Unfortunately that happens a lot especially if you get a lot of traffic in a very specialized niche. When it comes to being in business, you really want to protect yourself as much as possible and register every TLD there is for your business. The big three at a minimum. They can also outright steal your Adwords campaigns so you are spending the money and they end up getting the traffic and sales. You can also claim trademark but unless you register it properly and internationally, it can be very difficult and expensive to take action against the person who stole it.

I have seen businesses have to rename themselves to fix the problem because it was going to be too much to try and fight it legally.

Best of luck to you!

happens all the time and I dont think there is anything your lawyer can do about it accept to charge you a fee to get nowhere. Buying domain names is free game. First come first serve. I am in the network infrastructure building business and we also do marketing and web development and in the pas 15 years I have seen it all. The type of thing you mention is very common and a money maker for those that dont care about ethics. We actually once had our whole website stolen and used by another company but just changed the name on the site. Funny thing was they also used the section that had all of our partner bios and pictures so it looked as if we all worked for them! The offender was in Russia! There was no point even persuing. Would have been a waste of time and money.
