Hello Gentlemen,

First time here. I found your cool site through VATSIM.;)

I'm hoping to begin building my own cockpit sim at home and I was looking to try and find a source for three somewhat small displays that could be used for individual glass instruments, such as a PFD and MFD. I'm thinking something like 6" x 9" or thereabouts.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanx:D

Hi brian,

Most of us use 3 monitors behind the Main Instrument panel. Depending on the type and size of your MIP, you may choose to go the same way. For CDU or FMC I would suggest a 5" PSOne Screen.

Best regards,

Trev

Thanks, Guys.

Okay, noobie qustion: can I take any one of these LCD displays and display information from MSFS onto it? In other words, does it require a special type of monitor, or will any do? (Obviously, I'm not intending to try and use my tv but the ones from lcdtft.com look like they'd be perfect).

And do these typically get connected with USB cables?

You must have the ability to display VGA type of video. Most small monitors are designed to do TV style video.

If you have a graphics card that has a TV output these DVD type monitors might work.

My computer's fairly new...I'm using an InVidia GTS 8800 video card. Would you expect it would have a TV output? How would I be able to determine if my existing equipment can display VGA type of video?

Lastly, just as a general question: assuming all things were equal, would you expect that performance would be better or worse when utilizing multiple monitors?

Performance is definitely worse using a multi monitor setup, but it is still possible.
I am personally running FSX with 2 video cards, each card having 2 independent video displays. So In all, I have 4 monitors.

For the best performance, the other option is to use multiple computers running on a shared network along with network friendly software ( Project Magenta, ellie systems, sim avionics, etc).

Hi Renegade,

I tried that address (TFTCAR.com) and it didn't come up. Could it be that you misspelled i?:)

Polmer,

I thought you said 'FRIENDLY' software... From what I've heard, PM does not fit the category... :D
