45 Deg 2 pole Rotary Switches

Hi

Does anyone know where I can get a 2 pole 6 position rotary switch with 45 degree increments?

I want to use Ian Sissons' rotary switch - encoder technique (Genius) for my Autobrake switch.

ah chaps, g'day.....lot of interest in this idea.
but the problem is for your application, the index (45 degrees). the autobrake needs 6 positions (5 spaces). 5 x 45=225 degrees. a two pole is only going to give you 180.
without seeing the switch, you may have to open it up and remove the limit stop. it is possible to then make the switch continuously rotatable. pedro biblioni did it. then by calculating the connections of the A & B group in regard to the common, we could then make the rotary an exact replica of a 2 bit gray encoder. i'm going to have a go at this, writing the reply, i just thought of something.....another day, another brainwave :o))

ok, lads, this can be done, but, i guess the hard part is finding the 45 degree 2 pole switches. i've just had a rotary in pieces (disassemble it in a plastic bag so you dont loose the high speed ball that's going to want to go live next door). remove the stop limiter and it will become a continuous rotary switch when you reassemble it (that's a bitch).
i've never seen a 45 degree rotary, so my best guess is that a 4 way, 2 pole is what you're looking for. that is going to give you 8 contacts per revolution.
it would have to be a 4 way switch to emulate the 4 switch states (00 01 11 10, twice each revolution).
if you've got an hour free, have a look at the mouser online catalogue. maybe something in there. i also seem to remember seeing 'stacked' rotaries, one on top of another to give you two switches in one. but for the life of me i cant remember where i saw them.
i've got a prototype working using a 6 way 2 pole (i've just missed out a couple of pins). john, i'll show you next time you're here.

ok, with Pete Dowson's mousetrapping, it now becomes possible to send a joystick button press in and assign it to either a 'stock' FSUIPC macro or one of your own. You want to use it for the Autobrake. But the knob only has an increase or decrease level of control. OK, FSUIPC macro's do work on this switch. So i understood you wanted to have a switch with a 45 degree index that matched the markings on the panel to Inc or dec the level of Autobrake control.
Taking the 'simulated encoder' idea one step further, it can be done on a single pole 8 way 45 degree index switch. Make the rotary appear to one of Leo's BU0836X boards as an encoder which FSUIPC will see as a button press which in turn can be assigned to an Autobrake Inc or Autobrake Dec macro. Works a dream. There are several ways to trigger the Autobrake Disarm LED (SIOC, 555 Timer etc).
