Here's a couple pics of my pedestal. It coming along good, Please any suggestions are welcome. Im new to this. Any help is greatly Appreaciated.

I wouldn't have used wood strips to cover the openings in the pedestal. I would have used two 12mm aluminum angles bonded together in a 'T' shape and installed them from the forward edge to the rear edge and used those to support the radios and nav equipment when it comes time to install them.

Now, you'll have to cut holes and waste most of that wood by the time you fill the rack. It will also be more difficult to get an accurate alignment for installation of the radios as each hole will have to be cut identical to the first. In addition, there will probably be little to no wood to support the radios top to bottom after you have cut the holes.

I noticed you have used wood glue. If it's not too late I would pull that off and try my suggestion.

The shape and the overall outline looks great.

Oh ok, So the T frame from the bottom of the structure faceing upwards with the 12mm aluminum? Ok well ill give that a go. Should i be using somthing else rather than wood glue?

No, the wood glue is fine for the structure, I was meaning the boards you have glued together over the top of the pedistal.

Thanks. Always happy to help out a fellow builder if I can.

You'll find it much easier to install your radios this way and they will be better supported.

While you're at the hardware store, pick up an aluminum epoxy. Before I used this the first time on a sime structure, I worked up a test piece and allowed it to cure. I then secured it in a vice and attempted to pull it apart. The aluminum started to tear before the bond failed.

Good stuff to bond the aluminum angle to form the 'T' shape.
