Does anyone know of an easy way to make annunciator backings for lighting a 737 overhead? I don't particularly want to mould 101 backings myself and wouldn't even think of paying the high prices from some of our better known cockpit suppliers.

Is there maybe a rectangle pipe that is the same size? I could cut it and glue on the back plates and then drill holes for LEDs.

Do exactly that a hundred and one times plus engrave 101 legend front plates , connect 200+leds figure out material + your time and you will start to realize that the high price is not that high!!
My 2 cents of course..

You can make them yourself.

Determine the size they are and find a supplier that handles square PVC or aluminum stock.

McMaster-Carr in the U.S. carries it, but shipping to Down Under might be costly. Try and find a local distributor.

Nothing is impossible to make or build.;)

Dig around the net, I am sure as well as good instructions on Mikes site (http://www.mikesflightdeck.com/annunciator_lights_1.htm) I have also seen some made out of a lego brick.

This is great! It is amazing what one can find to make things work.

Jackpilot,

I am talking about backings only mate. No globes. No engraving. Just the little rectangle plastic covers to stop light from escaping.

I actually thought of Legos myself and then quickly dismissed the idea thinking there is no way lego bricks are the same size. I see that the standard 2x8 block is 16mm x 32mm x 9.6mm.

Hi,

a few pointers to provide food for thought...

... but "some" work will be necessary, as stated before!
