This is pretty old but if you like 80s metal, metal culture, A/C or just maiden in general you might get a kick or a chuckle:

Pretty cool in addition to being a lead singer Bruce ****inson is a real life pilot as well.

This really is a cool shot. I did not know Bruce was a pilot....

I am a big Iron Maiden fan since I first heard Run to the Hill's while in the UK 80-83.

My favorite is "Somewere in Time" CD. Got me fired up to power up the Mac a nd jam to some Iron Maiden

Hope they make it down to Kansas City this tour....:D

Cool to see other sim minded Maiden fans, I'm sure the love of aviation has helped write a few songs for that band like Aces High. I'm only 27 so I'm by no means a first gen. fan but my older bros were both big Maiden fans so I was hooked at a young age. I would list Somewhere in time as my fav. too. Hope you get a chance to catch them on there new tour my bros and I are making the trip to Los Angeles to catch them, there still big as ever and for me, worth the 400 mile drive to see them! They're the Pink Floyd of metal no doubt or is that Dream Theater..... ?

You said the magic words Pink Floyd and Dream Theater. Seen both in KC a few times. I am sure Gwyn will also post in here about his Pink Floyd interest.

(Gwyn something I didn't tell you but have built a music studio while waiting for B777 panels goes into production. Using Mac Pro Quad Core, Apple Logic Studio for software, Kurzweil K2600 and Korg Radias for keyboards, Epiphone Les Paul for Guitar, Mackie 1604-VLZ Pro for mixer, Samson Servo-260 for amp, Bose 601's for speakers, MOTU 828 for interface, Argosy Dual 15.825 console to hold it all.)

I have to work on my web page, WAY out of date. :(

I guess I just love everything that is vintage.

I'm still using a TASCAM 38-8, 52-2, and an M-1516 console. It has dbx Type 1 noise reduction so recordings still sound pretty sweet. And FAT. You can really push the tape with this.

Oh yeah I've read about his Pink Floyd interests its pretty cool he gets to do what he does, lol the test for my new speakers (music wise) last night was Pink Floyd's Pulse DVD. Man that sounded awesome in 5.1, am I going off topic in my own thread........?

Pretty cool that Maiden's singer not only flies, but flies part time for an Astreus Airlines and not only got a plane from them for the band to use but got them to let him paint it too! There was a UK history channel show he hosted called Flying Heavy Metal where he basically did just that. Of course Iron Maiden arent your typical metal heads (heck consider themselves prog. rock) it just goes to show that sometimes your real career overshadows your true love/s in life.

Okay, here it comes...my pre 'post-metal' days!

Back in the day, (aged 14-18) my brother and I would listen to Iron Maiden and being guitar players too didnt help. Floyd, Metallica, Van Halen, Rush, Megadeth, etc... I still have my Jackson King V, but it rarely gets played anymore. Now it's all praise and worship, or traditional Irish music on the acoustic, madolin, irish flute, or tin whistles! Talk about a change!

BUT, that's a great looking 757 (to get back on topic)

I bet Bruce will be flying it himself, since he has a 757 typerating.

When he is not touring he is a F/O for some british charter company.

Discovery europe aired a series called "flying heavy metal" where he was the host and flew all kind of stuff.

'Some' British Charter Company ?! ...... he flies for the wonderful Astraeus (as Hitchhiker pointed out above), and I have personally been piloted by the great man! ....from Gatwick to Faro (Portugal).

That was a 737NG, so if he's 757 now he must have changed type ratings.

:D

Like i said: some british charter company ;-) :P

(as Hitchhiker pointed out above)

Totally missed Hitchhikers post saying that *oops* *slapping myself on the forehead now* ;-)

, and I have personally been piloted by the great man! ....from Gatwick to Faro (Portugal).

gossshhhh...can i have your autograph now ? ;-) (just teasing ya david ;-) )

Actually i always thought he started on the 757, at least thats what he said himself in "flying heavy metal" and also in this interview:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2002/oct/15/theairlineindustry.g2

according to wiki he flies 757 too, but ive also read he flies the 737 (doesnt every smart pilot ? ;-) ) So i guess he flies both...some chairter company...uhmmm... i mean the wonderful Astraeus has both the 737 and 757 in the fleet :-)

anyway, flying heavy metal is a must see for every aviation lover.

Now play nice guys! I would love to see the UK show but across the pond here they dont think were smart enough for brit television. I've had a hard time finding the show even on DVD and I thought all the hitory/disco channel stuff was released to video?

I can tell you that he will by flying the plane on tour at least part of the way.

Well in any case its cool to hear that most of you have a Maiden story of your own to tell. A little off topic but last year my bro and I drove 6 hours into LA on a saturday to catch Maiden, but missed half the show due to two of those hours in the car. We hit Saturday afternoon rush traffic, it took us two hours to drive what would normally be 45mins and to top it no accident, no construction just too many damn cars and not enough route planning! The other time I missed them on their reunion tour (1999) due one of the three guitarists having a sprained finger, that one hurt. Cmon how many axes do they need?:D

Take your chill pill Stef :D ....... I certainly wasn't bragging that I flew on an Brucie Astraeus flight, just saying really - I'm not a metal fan and I wouldn't have even have known who he was but one of the guys I was going on hols with is a huge fan and we was peeing himself with excitement that it had turned out to be a 'Captain Brucie' flight.

As you pointed out, he must be rated on both. ;)

hey you used to be a realy nice guy 'til I switched away from Boeing bits Stef.... (...... I'm just teasing you back ).

LOL every forum needs these tags [/insert sarcasm here/]!

I should point out that a couple of the guys in the band especially the bassist play football (yes your kind) very competively and at least the bassist could have been a pro. Bruce ****inson also gave up a spot on the UK Olympic fencing team to tour with maiden instead. Personally I dont see the need for fence building in the olympics but he was good!

If theres one thing we can probably all agree on, its that the plane does have a killer paint job (no pun intended).
