Hi,

I have 2004, and might switch to FSX. Is it any good? What problems are there with it as of this date. I use CPFlight's first version MCP unit with Project Magenta. Any known issues with PM with FSX? I have XP main server with 2 older ME client units. I have yet to test if my XP main can handle FSX but think it should be fine. What about my 2 PM clients, will they be OK?

Thanks
Randy

In my experience, FSX is good when run on a powerful, multi-core PC, with at least 2GB RAM, and in a desktop setting, with single monitor use.

That's not to say it can't be used with PM, or in a pit, or with multi-monitors, just that the issues suffered make it not worthwhile to consider yet, in my honest opinion.

My views from my experiences only, other may disagree.

Randy,

I have noticed over the period of time that every users experience is different. However, mine after some minor turbulance, is running smoothly now and enjoy it very much.

I'm also running the origanal CPflight MCP, with complete 737 PM suite. In addition, when I want to get it even more real, i have even been running VOXATC for FSX too and only have seen the slightest decrease in performance. Since SP1 and SP2, I have been consistantly hitting 20 FPS and above.....Higher when not running VOXATC for FSX.

Here is my Line up with Comps:
1) Core 2 Duo with 2 Meg ram, 256 video card & XP
- PM MCP and VOX ATX and all Mega Scenery X's and also, My Traffic

2) P4 1 meg ram with 126 Video card & XP
- PM GC, PM sounds, PM get weather, and Radar Contact ( When Not using VOX ATC )

3) P4 1 meg ram with 126 video card & XP
- PM systems and Pm GC

4) P4 2 Megs ram with 128 Video card & XP
- PM GC and advance display

5) P3 750 256 ram with 64 Video card and XP
- PM GC, Phidets, and FMC

Hope this helps give you some ideas.

Hi,

You list many addon programs and such and to what PC they are on. Can you tell me in detail just what they do and how they enhance sim flying?

Thanks
Randy

Hi randy, Sorry for taking so long to respond, but I have been dealing with a hard drive failure these past few days.

- PM MCP, PM GC, PM FMC, and PM PMSystems All provide the sofware to interface with my MIP, FMC, Overhead and more. It is the brains to the flight Sim I have built.

- VOX ATX provides me a way in which to use voice commands to ATC. Makes it more realistic for those like me who just dont have the guts to go full VATSIM yet.

- Mega Scenery X's and also, My Traffic just provides more realistic airline traffic at the airports, and Mega scenery just does that, really brings the earth more to a real look.

- Radar Contact ( When Not using VOX ATC ) I use this when I dont feel like talking into a mike, OR when I'm on chat while in flight. Much like FSX ATC only I can use it on a non FSX machine and still have real sounding chatter to boot.

- advance display allows me to place Radar Contact's V4 ATC screen onto another machine with a monitor.

- Phidgets, is the software program that I use to interface with my overheads and MIP's buttons, switches and LED's.

Hope this helps.

My apologies if I missed it.... For the guys running FSX, what OS are you using?

Hi Matt,

I'm operating FSX on XP right now. I have been reading that there have been a couple of Simmers out there who are having good results using Vista on their server and their other computers operating as low as Windows ME!!!

Hi Matt

FSX has better results with Vista, I checked it first with XP Pro then I installed Vista 32 on that PC (clean installation, no hardware changes).
FSX with SP1 and Acceleration Pack
FSX with SP1 and SP2 (same speed)

The graphic gives you more depth!
I use
- Core2Duo E6600 @2.82GHz
- GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB PCIe (DirectX 9)
- 4GB Ram
- C-Drive = x2 SATA II in Raid 0 Mode
- F-Drive = x2 SATA II in Raid 0 Mode
- MB = MSI 975 Power Up

(Have been in the Beta from first day on, ever with this system)

Thomas,

Are you using a projector when using vista with FSX??? I have been wondering if there would be any improvements visually with Vista, FSX and a projector.

It is the like with a Screen, that means like I described before you feel more depth (feeling is a bit 3D effect) as well with the projector.
Also FS9 looks with Vista better!

Just as much I really "hate" Vista because of its crazy questions and setups, I love it because of FS view.

Also running FSX with Vista 32 and using the 8800 gts with a Duo 6700, I also concurr that the graphics are better and no known problems as yet.(Must use the latest drivers and SP2)
I really do not use the frame rates to any degree as a guide, except for testing basics. Turn that off and look for graphic differences, I think you will be impressed.

I ve done a simple test on the sifferent systems to understan what system to use with FSX. Pls look into the screens.

If anybody reads russian you can see the methodology of the test here http://www.avsim.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=45464&view=findpost&p=739962

One comment - I used default scene with trick and fair weather and maximum graphics setup. There are many ways how to get more fps, but I was interested in comparison with equal setup and drivers.
