I have never considered a tiller, but by all accounts it is far better than using the rudders?
I use Hagstrom for most things, but can't see how a potentiometer can be interfaced to give variable readings for tiller position that are translated into wheel movement, and what the electrical connections would be?
Anyone technically minded to (simply) explain this to me?

The easiest way to implement this is to use the Steering Tiller axis in FSUIPC. You can assign a slider on your yoke to it.

It works like this: until 60 knots the steering tiller axis is in control and is mapped onto the rudder axis of FS9/FSX, and above that speed the rudder (via your pedals) takes over. Of course there is an area of gradual change between the two.

Ofcourse you can also use a potentiometer connecetd to for instance a USB axis card of Opencockpits and then assign the FSUIPC tiller axis to that potentiometer.

I have combined the tiller and rudder pot mechanically and it works great. The rudder pedals turn the shaft of the pot and the tiller turns the housing of the pot. It has a simple little concentric bracket mount. It seems a lot simpler to steer accurately with the tiller than the rudders which is what I hoped for, this idea works!
