I have been to over three dozen sites on the internet looking for a viewable area size of a 17" widescreen monitor.

I can't even get a spec at manufacturers sites that make the damn TFT panels!

Would someone with a 17" widescreen monitor tell me what the viewable area is in width and height? Inches, millimeters, or centimeters welcome!

Resolution is 1440x900 if it matters.

Pain in the butt, ain't it? ;)

That's because they don't want you to realize that the 17" monitor they are selling you is not really 17". (Maybe we won't notice? ) Everyone of course looks at stuff on the diagonal all the time. When I measure the room for carpet I start in the top corner of the ceiling and measure to the opposite floor corner. Don't you?

Yeah, it is. You'd think the manufacturer of OEM panels would supply enough information on the data sheet so a manufacturer had specs for the design & engineering department.

Getting some information from the internet is like pulling teeth.

Anyway, I think this monitor is going to fit nicely behind my instrument panel. It won't cover the extra instrument hole on the far left, nor will it include all of the hole where the clock now resides, but Ill figure out something.

As for the far left hole on the panel, I really have no idea what is installed in the hole on the actual aircraft. I've never seen three holes to the left of the ADI and HSI on the 727.

Why don't you go up a size to a 19 inch widescreen? It's only 1 inch more in height, but 1.7 inches wider than the 17 wide. Would that be enough to cover some of those holes? There's not much of a price difference between the 17 and 19 anymore (and I found it tough to even find a 17.... most places don't even stock them anymore as more and more people want bigger).

Too late now, it arrived today. This is going to fit fine. I may just cover the other far left instrument hole since I don't have any idea what goes there anyway.

The nice thing about this monitor is the slim bezel design. It's very narrow. Because of the many Korry indicators on the panel, some of the top of the monitor will intrude into the instrument openings, but the instrument bezel should cover most of it when they are in place.
