While making an ils approach, as soon as I turned the APP and second autopilot on the 737 turned to go off somewhere else and I had no control. The LNAV was off so I presume it could not follow the legs on the CDU. I tried the heading select but the APP then went off. Do you have any ideas what could be happening?

Was this with the PMDG or default with PM Boeing, etc?

I was using the Wilco 737
Well, check if you tuned the NAV2 on ILS frequency before engaging the second AP in APP mode --as well , hope you setting the rwy course on the MCP and the Nav1 tuned correctly on ILS
Bad navdata may alsow couse problems , so worth to try some diff airport ,just in case
