    Red face Question for all Bus drivers

    This may be a "blonde" question but...

    On the 737 the throttles moves with the auto throttles engaged. When you hit the disengage button they stop moving and remain in the same place where they were. ie at the same thrust.

    Well on the Airbus the throttles are placed in the auto thrust detent and do not move.
    Now the question is this.
    When you hit the red button on the throttle handles to disengage the auto thrust, does the power ramp up to full because thats where the throttles are?

    I hope this question makes some sense.

    I have the same problem with a std logitech joystick.
    When you disengage the autothrottles when flying the std fs9 737 and touch the throttles FS instantly changes the trust setting.

    This makes approaches quite interesting.

    So how does the real airbus handle this?

    Well, Im not a pilot but also a bus builder and if I remember it right it goes
    the following way...

    Normally the autothrust is not disconnected by pressing the disconnect button
    but by reaching the idle detent with the throttles, thus no surge is possible
    If the crew decide to use the disconnect button then they need to be carefull
    and they need to bring the thrust levers back until the small ball sign on the engine page is lined up with the engine setting. Then they can press the disconnect button and no surge happens. If they would leave the thrust levers
    in the climb detent and press the button I think the engines would spool up to reach the climb thrust setting.

    If you disconnect them in the CL detent with the Red Instinctive Disconnect Pushbuttons it enters a mode Called Thrust Lock... SO it remains in the last thrust setting that was at the time of the disconnect... Now to disconect it so that you don´t ha ve a surge you brinc them back to the TLA setting that is Thrust Lever Angle which basically a dot on the Engine Indication and you push the red switches or you Idle it and press the red switches which is not always teh best case...
