Frontier Airlines is placing an order for two Airbus A319 aircraft. The newly-ordered planes will both be delivered in December 2002 and come in addition to Frontier's previously ordered and optioned Airbus aircraft. The airline currently operates a fleet of six A319s. Including the order announced today, Frontier will have a total of 12 A319s on firm order from Airbus, including those already delivered, plus another firm order for five A318s. With a combination of these aircraft ordered from Airbus, plus other leased new Airbus aircraft, Frontier expects to operate 36 to 45 Airbus aircraft by early 2005. The two newest A319s will replace two leased 737-200s, which Frontier has opted to return to their lessor 22 months ahead of schedule.

"Frontier continues to demonstrate its strength in the marketplace by moving forward at pace with continued confidence in the A320 Family," said Noël Forgeard, President and Chief Executive Officer of Airbus. "Frontier's selection of the A319 also highlights its dedication to passengers by offering the most comfortable and economical aircraft in its class."

Frontier's A319s seat 132 passengers in a single class, featuring a generous 33-inch seat pitch. The carrier's current A319 fleet, and those newly ordered, are equipped with CFM56-5 engines from CFM International. Frontier's A318s will also feature CFM engines, a recent selection made by the airline to ensure the earliest possible aircraft delivery availability.

Denver-based Frontier is one of two U.S. low-fare carriers to place firm orders for the A320 Family in the first quarter of 2002 (JetBlue ordered 10 A320s in January), a testament to the unmatched economics of Airbus single-aisle aircraft.
