    Hi Tom,

I've tried and failed to upload a TXT file. So, paste the text below into Notepad and save the file with the name B736-7B22.txt in the Types folder.

I'm sorry but I don't understand. Are those instructions?

I press the Browse button and locate the file I want to upload. I then press Upload and I would expect the upload to be successful. But, I just get the message "Upload of the file failed" without any explanation of what is wrong. The filesize is well within the limit.

I've tried it using both IE and Firefox but I can't get any type of file - jpg, zip, txt to upload.

    Hi Ray,
These are not instructions, this is a short log of what I did, in telex style, maybe too much shorthand writing.

The TXT file extension was not in the allowed upload list so I had to add it (this addition requires one being an administrator)

If an upload fails, please check the entire page for RED text, there should be a reason mentioned in red somewhere.

Thanks Kester. I'll try uploading a txt file now and check for any red warning text.

Later... The upload of a txt file is still failing. No red text is visible. The message at the top of the 'Manage Attachments' window states 'B736-7B22.txt:
    Upload of file failed.'

I'm probably doing something extremely silly but for the life of me I can't work out what it is. I'm trying to upload a file from my own computer.
    Help!

Hi Ray its possible that your windows settings are playing a part in this (and masking the true file extension of your files).

Check is in your windows folder options (see attached images).

    1) Open "My Computer"
    2) Click on "Tools" from the top menu
    3) Click on "Folder Options ..." (the Folder Options window will appear)
    4) Click on the "View" tab
    5) Scoll down to the option that says "hide extensions of known filetypes" and make sure this is not ticked.

The result of this will is that "sometextfile" will now appear as "sometextfile.txt" within Windows explorer.

Having this option off will also let you change the file-extension.

Eg : "somefile.abc" can be renamed to "somefile.txt" and therefore able to be uploaded to the forum.

Not sure if this is your problem however

EDIT : Also triple check that their are no spaces in the filename, an after thought

    Hi PaRa,

Thanks for suggesting those solutions. I already have file extensions showing and the filename had no spaces in it.

    Very frustrating

    Hmmm, frustrating indeed.

the problem is that I cannot see what you are going through.
I have tried it with a non-admin userid and it worked fine.

without any error message it's looking for the needle in the haystack.

maybe you can email me the file you are trying to upload

    Hi Kester,

Thanks for your help. I'm mailing you the file now. I'm also attempting to attach it to this message. Let's see... Well, well, well. It's working now. I swear I did nothing different to all my previous attempts. This one is zipped but I'd tried that too without success.

No need for the private message now. I wonder what changed?
