    Space Simulator

    http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/...pit-simulator/

Hello everyone, I go by the username Kotagi. I'm building a space sim to play Kerbal Space Program with. This is my first build so I expect alot of mistakes but I look forward to hearing any suggestions. I will post some pics of my inspiration first. I'm modeling my cockpit after the endeavor, although with some modifications.

    A little bit about me...
The reason I'm doing this is because I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Its a connective tissue disorder that affects the collagen in my body causing my skin to be stretchy and my joints to easily dislocate(among many other complications). I am an Ibew low voltage electrician and was hurt at work over a year ago and was denied treatment because of my condition. In order to not go insane, I teamed up with my neighbor and his kid to build a space simulator. EDS is not a well known disorder and that leads to many who go entire lifetimes misdiagnosed, thinking they are crazy. To this day, almost every doctor I meet has to go do some type of research before they can even have a conversation about it. So any awareness spread would help out greatly. Now back to my simulator...

Wow, I think this is the first ever Space Sim on MyCockpit. Not sure us guys have much experience of flying in space though. I dont think there's an astronaut on here either lol! But either way looking good!

    Re: Space Simulator

I made it modular so it wouldnt have to be actually disassembled to move it.(I move alot). It is made of 2x6 platforms that i made of 2x4's and 1/2 inch plywood. I drilled holes all the way through the platforms so I could run wires easily. I have seen alot better platforms on here but I was trying to be as cheap as possible. I got the screens from craigslist for $10 bucks/screen. I plan on using a raspberry pi to control certain aspects of the sim. Im new to programming so what I think I can do and what I actually can remains to be seen but I have some pretty cool features planned..Like..

    1. Red Led's that light up outside the windows that are set to the intensity of the heat produced on re-entry
    2. Vibration motor set to the intensity of g force
    3. Usable multi-function displays
    4. Throttles, Joysticks and other cool electronics
    5. 8- way joystick I want to use for docking adjustments(arcade set)

Anyways. This is all I have for now..Im tired. I look forward to your feedback

    Re: Space Simulator

Welcome aboard! I'm happy to see a space sim, that is rather unique in the sim world. I've sorta wanted to do a space sim myself, but for now that idea shares space in the back of my head with other planned sim projects such as the Baron, Learjet, OH-58, L-39, X-Wing, etc etc....at the moment I'm already out of space!

I'd never heard of Kerbal, that looks like an interesting piece of software. I'm sure you're also aware of Orbiter, which is probably what I'd end up with if/when I ever do something with a space sim. http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/

    Keep us posted!

Looks like a great project. Unfortunately shuttle spares are also thin on the ground but there are loads of old guages on the net which you could use to populate panels and areas not in the main focus.

Best of luck and cant wait to see more progress shots
