    Link2fs Windows 8.1

    Good evening,
    I am not sure if it is Windows 8.1 or something else but whenever I attempt to open Link2FS it closes with an error;

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

I think I'm having the same problem with windows 8.0
I'm currently only running FSX demo. Could that be the problem?
    Thanks

    Re: Link2fs Windows 8.1

On a 'Steam' installation ,,, on your computer go to ,,,,

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces\FSX-RTM\SimConnect.msi

    Double click the file "SimConnect.msi"

The above should install the missing Simconnect.dll and the version in particular my software looks for is version 10.0.60905.0

I can't test this myself so let me know how it goes.

As far as using the 'Demo' version of FSX ,, no it wont work.

My software runs fine in Windows 8 and 8.1 using a standard install of the full version of FSX.

    Good luck ,,, Jim

    Thanks for the reply!
I have tried installing the update 10.0.61637.0 and it seems to install fine. I then open the LINK2FS and it comes up with the same error.

    Re: Link2fs Windows 8.1

Thank you SO much Jim for your quick reply and all the work that went into this software!
I managed to get it working by installing version v10.0.60905.0 (see link at bottom)

    how I did it:
    Windows 7,
Latest FSX Steam edition (downloaded last night)
.Net framework 4.5.1 and 3.5 installed.
    attempting to run link2fs_multi_fsx_v5h

I followed your simconnect.msi install advice,
on my computer version v10.0.61259.0 was installed successfully but link2fs_multi_fsx_v5h
    wouldn't run - it complained couldn'n find version v10.0.60905.0.

It seems the following versions exist:
    1.0.20.0 - ESP RTM
    10.0.61259.0 - FSX SP2 or Acceleration
    10.0.60905.0 - FSX RTM (as used by Jim's link2fs_multi_fsx_v5h)

Quick google for simconnect.msi 10.0.60905.0 and I found the following:
(NOTE, obviously I take no responsibilty for the download, but I ran an AVG antivirus
scan on it and it was clean on my machine, and it works)

SimConnect_RTM.msi (which is the installer for simconnect version 10.0.60905.0):

    FILE DOWNLOAD: (SimConnect vs 10.0.60905.0)
    http://www.flightsimtools.com/adconv...onnect_RTM.msi

and I found the link to it at the following forum page:
    http://www.flightsimtools.com/forum/...c.php?f=3&t=29

Hope this helps, and thanks again.

    Re: Link2fs Windows 8.1

This is indeed good news David ,, I was hoping that the whole lot were going to be installed with that 'Xpack' install.

That brings up the question as to what other files are actually included with the "Stream" download. ???

Is there a file / folder called ,,,
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces\FSX-RTM\SimConnect.msi
    ???
Note the change in the FSX-XPACK folder to FSX-RTM or something similar.
Is there something like that there as I can't see them including only the SP2/ Accel simconnect and not the original RTM one.

If they haven't then at least it can be found on the Net and thank you for posting the links.

    Cheers ,,, Jim

    Re: Link2fs Windows 8.1

    Hi Jim
    I have the following:

    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces
    contains 3 folders:

    FSX-RTM
    FSX-SP1
    FSX-XPACK

each folder contains 5 files with the same 5 filenames:

    Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect.dll
    Sample.exe.manifest
    SimConnect.h
    SimConnect.lib
    SimConnect.msi

    I checked the versions...
    RTM = "version='" "10.0.60905.0" "' " \
    SP1 = "version='" "10.0.61242.0" "' " \
    X-PACK = "version='" "10.0.61259.0" "' " \

I don't know if it's relevant but I noticed the following folder:
    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\inc
which has SimConnect.h in (the only file). It is version
    "version='" "10.0.62607.0" "' " \

I'm feeling around in the dark here, but it's asociated files appear to be in
    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\lib
and the readme file here is as follows:

    ----- start ------
This directory has the following files:
Sample.exe.manifest - a sample manifest file. Place a copy of this in the same directory as a SimConnect client .exe and change that copy's name to the same name as the client .exe with ".manifest" appended to it. When the client is launched, the Windows OS side-by-side (SxS) assembly system will find the designated version of the SimConnect.dll to load into the client's process. You can use the manifest tool (mt.exe) that is provided in the Platform SDK to embed the manifest contents into the client .exe, eliminating the need to keep a copy of the .manifest file present with the .exe. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...tup/mt_exe.asp for more details about the manifest tool. The use of SxS manifests avoids the management problems of having multiple copies of a shared DLL.
SimConnect.lib - this is the import library that you can link with your code. It resolves the references to the SimConnect_* functions, causing your SimConnect client .exe to load-time dynamically link to the SimConnect client DLL. You can also use the LoadLibrary and GetProcAddress OS Win32 functions to access the SimConnect_* functions, if you prefer.
SimConnect.msi - is the Microsoft Installer package to install a copy of the SimConnect client DLL on a system. The installation of Microsoft Flight Simulator X on a system will automatically install the SimConnect client DLL. This separate installer file is for use when you want to install a copy of the client DLL on other systems that will communicate remotely via SimConnect to the system running Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
    ----- end ------

I'm assuming this means that Steam Edition is using version 10.0.62607.0 and the three other versions are older versions included for compatibilty?
Hope this is of help to you

Note, I can't be sure that this was ALL included with the clean install, Obviously I have since installed SimConnect.msi vs 10.0.60905.0 - presumably the installer installed this into the "LegacyInterfaces" folder?

Anyway, hope this makes sense and is of help to you.
    David
