Old Project Modified (2 Arduino MEGAs) MCP, Lights & Communications

It's been awhile but I finally got back to programming and wiring things. The old project was a mess, used sheet aluminum which wasn't very stable, with a coroplast (plastic cardboard) case.

I have since upgraded to 8x6x3 ABS plastic project box. I also reworked some of the code.

    New project

Case 1: LCD Communications Panel / Mode selector (Arduino MEGA #1/Link2fs CARD 2)

5 Rotary Encoders control COM1, NAV1, NAV2 and Transponder (push the encoder IN to adjust .xxx MHz, or transponder digits)
3 Pushbuttons swap standby frequencies for COM1, NAV1 and NAV2 (standby frequencies are shown on the right on the LCD)
20x4 LCD displays the radio frequencies and "Mode" (new)
1 Rotary Switch controls the autobrake (RTO, OFF, 1, 2)
1 Rotary Switch controls the "Mode" (which is new). Since I was working on this project specifically for the PMDG offsets, I found that I wanted to use it for other aircraft. This Mode switch now has "PMDG" or "GENERIC" setting and tells the other Arduino card to change offsets (in Case 2, below)

Case 2: MCP and Lights Panel (Arduino MEGA #2/Link2fs CARD 1)

9 Pushbuttons control MCP/Autopilot CMDA, CMDB, SPD Hold, HDG Hold, LNAV, LOC, APPR, ALT Hold and V/S Hold
4 Rotary Encoders adjust MCP Speed, Heading, Altitude and V/S
6 Toggle Switches for lights: Landing, Taxi, Position/Strobe, Anti-Collision, Logo & Wing
    1 Pushbutton arms/disarms spoilers
8 Green LEDs provide status indicators for MCP hold functions
6 Blue LEDs provide status indicators for the lights
1 Blue LED shows Spoilers Armed or not
3 Green & Red LEDs show landing gear locked down or in motion

It is nowhere near the appearance of a cockpit. I built it for function rather than looks due to budget and my desk isn't that big. So it is functional and I can change from PMDG's offsets to generic inputs on the fly with the rotary switch on Case #1.

Here's Case 1/LCD Display (labels are not permanent but best I could do with the laser printer. lol)

(the GENR on the lower right shows what Mode the offsets are on. It shows "PMDG" in PMDG offset mode)

Well done, Mike. This is a great way to get a lot of function squeezed into a small package.

Learning about what Arduino can do now and I'm giddy with the possibilities. Will start with a simple switchboard like your case #2 and (hopefully) move up from there. Great work!
