    Wall Mounted Projectors?

Has anybody used an ultra short throw wall mounted projector? Some of them have throw ratios of ~0.3. I assume distortion would be an issue with such a wide projection? I'm setting up a 12' wide curved screen, and haven't committed to a projector yet. With such a low throw ratio I could get another 20 degrees of FOV. Also, they can sit so close to the screen it would be easy to build supports integrated into the screen structure, and not have to screw into the ceiling. I've been searching for a couple hours though, and can't find anybody using them. There must be a reason??

No, however I am eyeing the BenQ W1080ST, 0.7 TR, but it is a 1080p projector for ~ 1000 USD. I plan to use it for simulation -- flight and golf, and cinema.

    Re: Wall Mounted Projectors?

Are you only using one projector? One of the problems with using three projectors is they have to sit on top of each other unless the throw ratio is less than ~0.7. I had two Optoma GT750E (0.72 TR), and ran some test setups, but I wasn't happy with the amount of warping necessary to align the images due to the inability to get the projectors close enough. I've read that some people have had success with similar projectors though, perhaps I'm too impatient!

We use three ultra short throw projectors on three flat surfaces. By testing we came to the conclusion that UST-projectors and curved screens is a very challenging combination. We were unable to get the focus satisfactory on a curved screen.

I'm going to try with one projector onto a corner wall. I know its not going to be 180 degrees, but we'll aim for one FSX view, zoomed out, so ~100-120 degrees, which should give a good enough effect.

Frames will be excellent, warping will be done with Immersive Display Lite 2.

Obviously with a ST projector you will get a larger throw.

Oh, that's interesting. Have you found that the severe warping in the corner causes any distortion?

I use short throw projectors and they're definitely worth the investment.

    Re: Wall Mounted Projectors?

Don't have a projector to test it out, but if you're going to be using a structural frame I don't think it will be an issue as it should be obstructed.
