    Building desktop PC

    Hi fellows,

I've been searching for parts to build a new and strong desktop PC exclusively for FSX, running many addons from PMDG, Captain Sim, Aerosoft, REX or Active Sky, etc..
Here is the list of what I've been looking so far, on Amazon.co.uk:

    Case: fractal designs r4
    PSU: OCZ 700w
    Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth Z77
    CPU: Intel i5 3570k
    GPU: Nvidia GTX 670 Ti
    Cooling: Corsair H100
    RAM: 8gb or 16gb, GSkill 2400
Hard drive: Western Digital back edition 1TB
    Drive: SSD OCZ 128gb

Now, I know that most of you might be very bored of reading always the same type of posts asking for stuff like this, but I'm not the best expert on high end PC's and hardware and I also don't want to buy parts that are not compatible on the same rig. I don't know if that's the case on the list I've presented above.
Hope you can give some feedback and I'll be here to read

Another thing is, i'm planning to buy online probable on amazon.co.uk because i'm from Portugal and in Europe amazon it's probably the only big online shop closer to my country. But if you have any other suggestions about buying online please tell me. Physical retail stores here are very expensive.

    Thank you to all!

    Re: Building desktop PC

    Hi Ângelo.

I have NO in-depth knowledge about hardware or how things work together.

But it sounds like we more or less are in the same situation: Trying to configure a new PC for FSX. And further more it sounds as if we (more or less) have come to the same conclusion regarding hardware. I have a wish-list for my new PC that more or less matches yours. But I know nothing about hardware - I have just trawled FS-forums; and have come to the same conclusion as you.

However one thing to consider: At this point (at least in Denmark) the price difference between the i5 3570K and the i7 2700K is only €50. So I would consider spending those €50 extra on a faster CPU as that seems to be the bottle neck for FSX.
    Best wishes, Peter

    Re: Building desktop PC

just a suggestion but you may get a better deal by buying the "gamer bundle" PC's from companies like "Overclockers.co.uk" who build overclocked PC's to high specs, they will also modify any bundle to suit your requirements. I have bought 3 pc's from them over the past 4 years and have all proved to be completely reliable and excellent for running FSX. Games have similar demands as FSX such as high speed graphics/processors and hard discs. I tried the route of building my ownPC but the price difference was not worth the time and effort involved. I too would recommend the I7 processor.

Geoff is correct. FSX needs CPU speed and lots of it. Try also Chillblast.com and go for a CPU overclocked to 4.4ghz
