Possible to control x-plane buttons directly via datarefs?

We are using opencockpits cards and sioc to control fs2004. We we are changing to X-plane 10.
At fs2004 our sioc-code used "virtual joysticks", that shows at fsuipc as joystick presses.

Now we are planning to use uipcx with openckpits cards.

Is there any changes to control x-plane buttons directly via datarefs?

Normally these are assigned with "real" joystick buttons.
in other words: the plan is sioc <-> iopc <-> uipcx <-> dataref to button directly

    Is this possible to do?

    Regards
    Ville
