    Re: Another 737NG biuld

    Hi Stinger.

    Very impressive. I am also going along the same route of constructing from MDF and you have really inspired me and by the looks of it, others too. Your woodworking skills are very good. I have just finished building my workshop so I will hopefully this year get started on my TQ. Your idea of incorporating the Saitek unit is brilliant. I was wondering how I could do it with mine - problem solved. The yokes look pretty good as well.
    As you mention, we are all on a tight budget these days so if it looks right, it is right - at a fraction of the cost.

    Hope you don't mind but I have saved your pictures for future reference once I get my back side into gear.

    Tip - it is less formal if we can use your first name.

    Gary

    Norman,

    Two further questions if I may. Whilst you appear to have 'beefed up' the saitek TQ levers with ali, are the original plastic items strong enough to house the throttle levers and reversers? and secondly, would you mind sharing the details on how you wired and constructed the flaps side of the TQ?

    Re: Another 737NG biuld

    Hi Gary, the saitek throttle arms are as you say beefed up with ali, i managed to sandwich them with the wooden tq handle sliding down over the saitek ones. Put ali everside and then sandwich them so as they move forward/backwards they are a tightish fit to the surrounding curved sides. There is a little play but acceptable. The wooden tq handles then have a tiny bolt through to hold all in place. When you lift the reverser it simply actuates a micro switch to do the job so no real pressure there.I had to use a sub miniture micro switch to get it to fit. The flaps lever has a meccano type round gear bolted to the flap arm and a smaller one fitted on the pot below,it is then sprung loaded as you lift the flap lever, and then this moves the pots position as the lever moves. Very simple really i will then in fsuipc set the parameters as the pot is moved,i think? hope that helps.

    Excellent. Thanks for the reply Norman. I now know which way I am heading.
    I would find it very hard to justify an all singing and dancing TQ to the good lady but I may just get away with some MDF and ali.

    Please keep us all updated as to your cockpit progress.

    Cheers Gary.

    Re: Another 737NG biuld

    Thanks for the update. Yes computers can be a challenge.
    My problem is the opposite, I am not too skilled building and assembling the shell, MIP etc, but have no problems
    using the computers.
    Good luck with your project. Post a pic or 2 when you get a chance.
