Which printer are you using? It took me a while to realize that the selector switch photo you posted was entirely home made. Can you print with multiple colors? I was thinking how cool it would be to make switch buttons with lettering molded into the plastic.

its a scratch built prusa I3 Reprap. COst me about 250 about $420. http://reprap.org/wiki/Prusa_i3
Ive only got a single extruder on it at the moment, so only one colour at a time. Im using PLA rather than ABS, its a much nicer material to work with.
Ive also been using ninja flex, which is a flexible PET rubber.
if you've got an idea post a picture and ill try it out.

Very nice! Now you've got me interested in building an i3 also, there are a lot of items still to fabricate for my cockpit. Are you sure of the Ninja Flex material? Their website avoids any specific identification of the material they use, but the characteristics sound an awful lot like extruded polyurethane, and with a melting point of 180C it would work well in the i3.

your right about the ninjaflex, my mistake. Been along 2 weeks , been building a full sized blown up french cafe for my wwii re-enactment group.
i tend to run the pla and the ninja flex at a bout 200c it flows a lot nicer, back step 6 mm and it stops the trailing dribbles.
If you go for the i3 make the box version its a lot more solid.
maybe we should have a 3d printer section on here what do you say jim?
most of the hard work is the calibration , but if you need any advice just pm me.

    Hi mark,
Spent some time looking at the I3 variants, I was very impressed. However, I finally decided that another construction project is not what I need, what with my cockpit parts spread all over the house. I was particularly fascinated by the Makerfarm Prusa i3v, so that may be coming in the future.

I was really wondering if it was possible to make knobs and button caps like the ones below. Maybe you could print the black parts first with recesses for the lettering, and then fill in the recesses with white. Just a thought, I thought it would be very cool if these could be made, so if youre looking for an interesting 3d project keep this in mind.

I think having a forum about 3D printers is a good idea Mark ,, but not in these sub forums ,, it's nothing to do with Arduino and Link2fs.

The thing to do is send a Private Message to Matt and run it past him about opening a 3D printer slot in the "General" forum listings ,, I think there would be some interest as I've seen posts "flick by" talking about 3d printers etc but I never noticed where they were "hanging out."

See how ya go ,,, Jim

Hi Guys ,,, I just done a big update in the "NOTABLE THREADS" listing ,, I think I got them all but I may have missed something.

If anyone finds a thread that they think should be included then just let me know or add it yourself.
It needs to be informative and generally have working code.

It's actually been a good catch up for me and I found a couple things that needed answered ,, still I'm not here all the time so I suppose these things happen.

    Cheers Guys ,,, Jim
