    BU0836X POV Hat Switch Setup

I have a Leo Bodnar BU0836X card. It supports an 8-direction POV Hat Switch. The connect on the card for the switch is +5vdc, gnd, up, down, left, and right. I am building a Bell 206B sim and would like to install one in the cyclic control I built.

Does anyone know where I can purchase a Hat Switch that is compatible with the card ?

Re: BU0836X POV Hat Switch Setup

    Hi Terry,

POV Hat switch is nothing more complicated than 4 ordinary switches with individual outputs on one side of each and common GND on the other. Ignore +5V connection on the BU0836X.

They are usually called 4-way or 8-way switches, navigation switches or digital [mini or micro]joysticks.
Often they are made with 4 ordinary tactile pushbuttons and one large plastic cap covering all of them so that it pivots around the centre.

You can either rip it out from any old joytsick or get from DigiKey or Newark or any other online components supplier or hobbyist store.

    Cheers
    Leo

    Hi Leo,

    Thanks for the clarification.

What you explained is how I thought a POV Hat Switch worked but when I show the +5vdc connection on the card I wasn't sure if I was thinking of the same type of setup.

Have a Great Day and keep the excellant products coming.

Re: BU0836X POV Hat Switch Setup

hi there. after reading this thread, would I be right in assuming that, by connecting 4 switches all with a common gnd to the up/dn/left/right pov terminals of the bu0836x card ,it would give me the use of 4 extra switches other than the 32 available buttons on the card.although thinking about it, the extra switches would have to be momentary on/(off) switches rather than on/off switches is that correct?.John.

I connected all 6 wires to Leo BU0836X LEFT RIGHT UP DOWN GND 5+
    FSUIPC doesn't recognize any movement.

I have other 2 buttons connected via the Leo and they are working.

I will try to post a picture later on.
