L188 electra MIP

Hello all

Here is the beginning of the L188 sim.

The pilot and copilot panels are 24inches wide after finding the dimensions for a P3 Orion and careful study of the MIP on both the P3 and the L188 I believe that the my dimensions are pretty close to the real plane. The MIP from the lower portion measures 74 inches and is 17 1/4 inches tall. I made the pilot and copilot panels twice because when i read that the P3 orion copilot panel was 24 inhces wide and the pilot side was 20 inches wide i was sure it was a typo. After building the panels i realised that the P3 had some modifications done to the pilot side panel and the center panel had been stretched. So i had to re make the panels and now they look very close to what the real plane looks like. It helps to have an actual L188 manual to refer too. Its just to bad they did not include dimensions in those manual .

While i was reading through the link you sent me I had a question.....Is this simulator still in service or is it in a location that i might be able to have access to it?

The company that owned it was bankrupted by 9/11. It's my understanding that the RAF purchased it. I don't know where its current location is, sorry.

Nice work Mike... am I correct in assuming you're using aluminum? BTW, keep the pics coming as you progress, very interesting

Matt, Yes i am using aluminum. I plan on building 2 center panels for engine displays, the first one will use two 15" lcd's and displayed on those will be FSxpand gauges. The second center panel I will slowly build the gauges with the help of Mike's book. I wont start that panel until much later as i think that will be the longest part of the build.

Hello again everyone I have been away working on my Rally car and changing jobs. Now that I am a little more settled and its getting colder I have started working on my L188 Sim again. I am currently working on the throtle quadrant I will take some pics of it tomorrow since i wont be headed home after work.
