my setup and question about mylar

    Hi guys,

I have playing with my setup.

    One projector Acer PD125
Curved screen made of white matta pvc 300x164 cm, 2mm thick.
Curved mirror 100x70 cm, mirror front of the plastic.

Projector is in front of cockpit, 200 cm from the mirror up of the cockpit.
Screen is 200 cm from the mirror.
I got already very nice perfect picture, about 240 cm wide, but my problem is that mirror i have is not good enough for sharp picture, i found out that mirrorpart is not 100% plain and that makes picture unsharp.
Even normal glassmirror gives better quality.

So my next plan is using mylar, question is how sharp picture it can make and where i can get it in europe? Havent found it from Finland.
    Thanks

Re: my setup and question about mylar

Come on guys, i know here is many who have play with mylar.
I just dont want to spend money and time for nothing,
if mylar dont give sharp image like normal mirror.
In that case i will use normal mirror and flat screen.

So seemingly very popular in cockpitbuilders- and drugsscene ... (for growing canabis).

Re: my setup and question about mylar

From the photos, it looks like your mirror is foggy. This may be partly or fully responsible for your poor image. If this is the case, I suggest you look for a similar mirror of better quality. Before you do, though, could you tell me if your mirror has a protective film which hasn't been removed?

If the mirror is not foggy, you may want to consider that in order to use a mirror as a beam spreader, the projector needs to be able to focus very close. If the image of the screen in the mirror is too close to the projector, it won't be able to focus. Even if the projector can focus, there will be some astigmatism (focal length is different in the horizontal and vertical planes), which will lead to imperfect focus.

Mylar is a tricky material to work with. Simply stretching it over a frame will likely result in lots of wrinkles and a VERY poor image. If your problem is that your mirror is foggy, you may be able to get away with stretching the mylar over your existing mirror. If not, I'd suggest you go the route of finding a better plastic mirror.

    Edit:
I also notice that the bracket on each end of the mirror does not extend the full height of the mirror. This results in distortion along the curved edge as the mirror tries to lay flat in this area. If you don't need that portion of the mirror, I'd suggest you trim the height to match the bracket length.

Re: my setup and question about mylar

Thank you Hessel for the links.
Mylar in that first link is too small, i need minimum 100x70 cm.
In other link Mylar is 100 meter long and thats very expensive also.
I need to find some place they sell it by meters or so.
Or i need to start plant something, to use what is rest of that

    Wledzian,
    Thanks for your info.
Yeah, i have remove protective film, i think mirror i have, is poor quality.
From projector to mirror, distance is about 2 meter and same from mirror to screen, so its total 4 meters.
I had same distance and focus when i test with normal glassmirror, there was huge difference between those mirrors.
With normal one picture was very very sharp.
I will also change brakets to better one and matching lenght, those are just for testing.
I keep trying to found mylar.

    Thanks

    Marco
