Re: Preliminary to Cockpit Building
Everybody has to start somewhere, not a cheap hobby in the least bit. You should see the pile of radios, EFIS, MCP scattered on my desktop, then a revolution throttle on the floor next to it.......Waiting on the MIP and CDU base to start making it look like something.
You'll get there!!!John

Re: Preliminary to Cockpit Building
Here was what my current very basic setup looks like. Don't laugh too hard. But got to start somewhere.
I built the computer myself (i5 750 OC to 3.9 Ghz ... more details provided on another thread.
I plan on getting a second monitor which will sit below the existing monitor and will be used to display instruments. I've started on my RD keyboard mods. I'll also try my hand at a simple switch panel using a hacked Microsft USB joystick for the interface.
BTW this is my first time trying to post an attachment so I hope it works.

Re: Preliminary to Cockpit Building
Dont worry, we wont laugh, that alot neater than mine at the moment! And as you rightly said, we all have to start somewhere! I managed to bag myself a 26'' TV and im using it as my main monitor today so i will have a little fly tommorow and maybe get some work done on the MIP frame, i want to start my sim looking good now! But its looking good so far, good luck!

Re: Preliminary to Cockpit Building
With my current setup I'm getting the following performance.
Scenario 1:
- Location = Seattle area
- Airplane = Cessna
- Weather = thunderstoms
- Settings = Everything max'd out
- FPS = 10 but it seems smooth
Scenario 2:
- Same as above except weather = fair
- FPS = 20
Scenarion 3:
- Settings = minimal
- FPS = 58 (I think this is limited by the fact that I have Vsync set using ForceFullVsync=1 in the [Graphics] section of the CFG file. I did this to stop screen tearin when lookimg sideways with TRACKIR.

Re: Preliminary to Cockpit Building
You have just demonstrated that FSX for all but the very highest machines remains a tradeoff between quality and performance. Make it look good to you with frame rates you can tolerate, and you are there!

Re: Preliminary to Cockpit Building
Strange thing is that I just loaded the ORBX FTX demo for Pacific Northwest which includes Seatlle and now I get better frame rates but sometimes not as smooth. FSX drives me crazy.
