    ATI 5870 vs Matrox TripleHead2go?

OK, I have the Saetek yoke, throttle and rudder pedals and now have a new computer as follows:

    AMD Phenom II X4910 processor
    8 GB DDR3, ! TB hard drive , ATI HD4350 512dedicated card
    Vista Home Premium

Anyway, I have a 24 " flat main screen(new with DVI) and 2, 19" older square flat screens with vga only that I was going use on the sides and possibly use a forth for .

Question is can I do this and which is the better of the two choices that I listed in the title above ?

I believe eyefinity for the ATI cards will only work with 3 monitors of the same resolution, so that might not be the best for you. I have the 5850 and it's a great card performance wise but eyefinity still has no bezel management so that's another point for the triplehead. The 4350 it's not a great card specially if you are using FSX so the 5870 would be a great performance upgrade.
Also remember you need an active displayport adapter to hookup one of the 3 monitor which is $100. Just keep those things in mind and do the math. Even f you get the tripplehead I would still think you need a better video card.

    So,
you need three of the same type of monitors and a displayport for each
(at $100) to run using the 5870 ?
And can I get away with one DVI monitor and the other two VGA if I go with the Tripple Head2go? I guess that is a yes becasue I was using a DVI to
VGA adapter to run my older VGA screen from the DVI output .

you would only need one displayport adapter for one of the monitors to run 3 monitors, the other 2 can be vga/dvi/hdmi with the correct adapter.

    Why not a 5850 and a Matrox TrippleHead2Go?

Yeah if you are going to go with the triplehead2go I would go with a high-end nVidia card which would be cheaper than the 5850. Don't really see an advantage there. Another good thing for the ATI over the triplehead2go is that it supports higher resolutions at 60hz unlike the triplehead. Sorry I can't give you a straight answer, have to weight the pro's and con's. What is your monitors resolution? Would have to check with maxtor and see if the triplehead can support your monitor's resolution.

Well I don't know which plane/cockpit you are planning to build but I will do the following (consider that I already have a 5850):

1 th2go for the mip monitors
1 th2go for the projectors (with the outside view).

So the idea is not that strange it depends on your needs

Will you have sufficient processing power for that setup to be acceptable?

Well I think so, considering that the 3 cockpit displays won't take much power from the card, while for the outside view, I will start first with one projector (also because of money :P ) and then start to add the other(s) and check the results. This is why I decided to get a high-end card.
