Of course it's a simulator, it's in the name, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun like any other computer game, you have missions to do and in fsx you can reach several goals and get awards. So I think it is both. But it's a hard question and definately depends on the way you use it. If it wouldn't be fun though, probably this whole forum would'n exist.

    Re: Is MSFS a GAME?

I consider not to be a game or a sim...i consider it to be a platform.

windows is a platform, they give you the very basic things to work with, gets very boring after a while, then you do so much more with it, and the content of this site is proof.

Think about it, how many people here just use FSX with NO ad ons whatsoever, just straight out of the box?? How many people use windows straight out of the box??

FSX is just a platform for so much, and remarkably endless possibilties. A true simulator is just a (for example) 737, with all its complexities, and thats it..737, a game has multiple objectives, advancements, etc.

See, FSX is neither a true game or a true simulator, but it is a starting point for something greater.

Just my thoughts, dont hate me to much.
I'm not replicating anything, because I like to fly everything.

    Re: Is MSFS a GAME?

I'm new to this site (but not simming) and was interested to see this poll.

I now view MSFS as flight simulation. I say now because I believe most of us started out with whatever version of FS-with a 14" monitor a keyboard, and a PC that would only just start FS. Thats a game. (Well that was me anyway).

After building a full size 737-800NG sim, like so many others, and using VATSIM (a very important part of simming) and other realistic add-on software it has slowly developed into a serious hobby (habit now) and testament to this is having real life pilots flying your sim and commenting on how realistic it is.

However, without sounding contradictory it is ultimately a game.

    Hope that makes sense?!!

    Re: Is MSFS a GAME?

Really good question. The way i see it, some big companies are using it to train their pilots or to show their professional hardware. Soooo... I don't think they consider pilot training or a few $Ks in avionics/hardware development a game. I will go with simulator or like gokhotit mentioned a platform, some might call it a game if compared with the real deal. If I want a flying game then I just get a PS.. or XB.. Just my opinion .

    Re: Is MSFS a GAME?

If a young child uses PMDG's 747 then it is a game. If an RAF Hawk pilot trains in front of a cardboard cutout instrument panel then it isn't a game.

Whether a flight simulator is a game or not depends on what is going on inside your head.

Of course it's a game. Game implies entertainment value. Do we not do this as a hobby for entertainment? If there is no enjoyment in it, why do it at all?

    The difference......

There is only one winner after playing a game.....

There are many winners after flying the simulator.....
