    CPFlight MIP737 board. - Quick question about external power.

    Hi guys,

    A quick question about the CPFLight MIP737 board, in the manual it says:

    If you use an external supply adapter place the “I/E” jumper to the “I” position. When powered by a supply
    adapter the MIP737 board has to be powered before to connect the supply to the MCP.
    Now, .. I am not 100% sure what it meant here.... is it:

    (A) - I need to have 12v on the MIP board before the DIN plug is attached to the MCP
    (B) - The MIP board has to be powered before I power the MCP with external power
    (c) - Non of the above, .. please fill in the correct answer ....

    Seriously, .. as I am intending to power my MIP board from an ATX power supply which I will turn on with the BAT switch I am worried about how I am now supposed to connect the MIP737 board, ... I really don;t want to toast my stuff.

    I'd appreciate any feedback here, I intend to connect my MIP and all the leds and MIP switches tomorrow

    I would read that as your option B, but it's not clear.

    I would also like to know the answer, as I've just bought a MIP737.

    I don't think you'd fry the board if you got it wrong, but I wouldn't try it with mine either!

    It's also a bit annoying if they do have to be powered up in sequence.

    Re: CPFlight MIP737 board. - Quick question about external power.

    the MIP737 board can be powered by either an external power supply or the MCP.

    If you have a heave load on the mcp (read: fully wired mipboard, dual nav, dual com, transponder, adf and dual efis) it is smart to use an external power supply (and the daisy chain booster or adapter for the pedestal).

    You have to select internal or external power with a jumper on the mip board.

    Here it gets a bit confusing:
    I = external power
    E = Internal power.

    You would think it would be the other way around, so look carefully there and follow the manual.

    When using an external power supply, in some case you need to power the mipboard before the mcp. Otherwise the MCP checks the connected devices before the MIPboard has fully boot up and it does not get recognized.

    I didnt have this issue with the usb mcp, but i do have it with the MCP PRO.

    No big deal really. I need so many power sockets that i switch them on with 2 seperate lines anyway (all computers, 4 tft's, dual cdu, mcp, mipboard, daisy chain board, ATX general supply, etc. total close to 20 power lines, so its smart anyway to split them on different groups with a different master switch)

    Re: CPFlight MIP737 board. - Quick question about external power.

    Thanks a lot for that info Stef. I guess since I will be going with OC radios that I will not need extra power on the MCP. I powered up the MIPboard today and connected the very first switches (LG) and LEDS (LG annunciators) to try it out....

    I must admit I am as happy as a pig in ****!!!
