Please help me build one of these...

Hi there! I Joined to get help building this model airplane that moves with the simulator as seen on this youtube screengrab:

It looks like 2dof pitch and roll but what interface? Will fs2phidgets work? Not like I know anything about it mind you! Something simpler? I have a lot to learn and need all the help I can get, thanks!

Re: Please help me build one of these...

Let me try this again. Maybe someone has a clue about how to build an articulating stand for an airplane miniature model that moves with fs2004 like this guy did. Now I uploaded the photo so it should be seen here. The youtube link has it in action.

    Thanks for any tips...

Re: Please help me build one of these...

I assume you mean the "little airplane" in the video and not a full motion simulator!!

In which case the airplane is mimicking the movement of an artifical horizon, responding to pitch and roll from FS. This can contructed from two servos hooked up to an interface card and driven by software links to FSUIPC - eg the Opencockpits servo card and the SIOC programme.

I recall someone posting details on this site for an artificial horizon gauge - suggest you search for this.

    Regards

    David

Thank you David and to the other poster, I checked out x-sim for help. Exciting stuff for sure! David, I think you have the simplest solution and because I won't be in it I won't need massive amounts of tweaking. So I couldn't find the Artificial Horizon post (Attitude Indicator). Can you help me find it? I should say I found the guy making the 737 backup gauge, and the ball and the paintjob, but no discussion of the hardware that runs it.

Hi Guys The project i built for X-sim Uses a POLOU serial 8 channell servo card which can be configured as you wish i.e 2 dof or 6 etc the software to drive the card is free on x-sim and omly requires a few RC servos and your own design of mounting will post the design i created and built later today sometime when i can find out where it's buried on my other PC i also have the OPencockpits servo card and the code to drive that as a 2DOF model sim but never got round to actually using them so will try to find that for you as well bang for bucks both methods are not expensive and relativley cheap if sorced via e-bay there are other ways i.e Mikeflightdeck book has some nice touches and great info so you have a very doable project on your hands ( **** i did it so it cant be that hard ) Cheers Guys just my 2 cents worth

Cool Re: Please help me build one of these...

Just dug the old girl out of the workshop so excuse the dust. picture showing the stage 2 testing set up for the Car but is the ame plaform that the plane model was mounted on ... Pololu Servos card , Serial Com Cable , 6 Cheap RC servos , MDF , and a few bits of Aluminium Angle and most of all the 2 bits of software ( Robins Source Code and in this case X-sim ) have to say thanks to the work that they did this project actually was brilliant to see in action and, if you know your way around C or Visual Basic Robin allowed you to Reconfigure his source code so it could be driven by third party software ( Now thats something that does not happen alot these daysso big big bog credit to the man cos thats a lot of hard work he has made available for Zip Nadda Nicth Financial Reward )

That is sweet, sweet, sweet. I'm looking into all the cards, the interfaces and all the links to info you gave. There is a dizzying array of options to choose from. Development is going to take longer than building the thing!
