    USB Hubs Causing Problems.

I have just spent yesterday tidying up the cables/wires plugs etc behind my desktop sim. This involved removing and replacing many USB connections via 2 powered 7 port hubs. Now my computer refuses to boot up when both of these hubs are attached to the computer. Remove one and the computer boots up OK. I have connected to the hub I remove (1) printer (2) Ergodex panel (3) Saitek throttle and (4) USB 3DSound . Strange that all these hubs worked happily together before I started tidying. Any ideas what may be happening. I have dealt with some Windows resetting of commands etc. After booting is complete I can attach the 2nd Hub and all works well.

    Re: USB Hubs Causing Problems.

I had a similar problem recently and it turned out to be that the hubs were drawing too much power from the computer. I have to do the same as you now, boot and then plug them in.

Seems strange though that it was working and isn't now, have you added any new devices?

    Re: USB Hubs Causing Problems.

Thanks for your reply. I have added a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse which were a replacement for a Silver Crest wireless keyboard and mouse. Now when I think of it I was having a few problems earlier and had to unplug my CP Flight MCP and Efis before booting up and this happened around the time I added the 3DSound USB so maybe the problem stems from there. I was suspecting a power problem but as both hubs are powered could that be the case?

    Re: USB Hubs Causing Problems.

I also have had the same exact problem.

When I attached my USB Hub, windows would hang at the CMOS screen and windows wouldn't boot. I would have to play around with it for many hours ( plugging in things in diffent order, ect) for it to finally boot. Then, If my PC lost power due to a storm or something, I had to play around with it again.

Today, I went into CMOS and made 2 changes.
    1. I did not have "Plug & Play " enabled, so I enabled it ( I read this may help).
    2. I found a setting under USB Mode, and it had 2 choices, High speed, or Full speed. I changed this option, and now it boots up!

Not sure this will work for you to, but its worth a try.

For the record, I have a ASUS P5B Deluxe motherboard and am using a powered USB Hub.

    Re: USB Hubs Causing Problems.

Thanks Polmer I literally one minute ago removed one of my 7 port hubs and replaced it with a 4 port hub I previously had been using and the PC booted up no problem. So maybe the cheap 7port was causing my problem.
