    L-1011 Project - New Member

    Hi Everybody,

I had no idea there was a community of like minded aviation enthusiasts that enjoy building cockpits for their home use. Fantastic!

I decided to get started on my project of building an L-1011 cockpit and I just received the left, center and right panels that I purchased on Ebay so I am on my way on what appears to be a very lengthy road (full of curious looks from my wife but...she's supportive). The panel is the older style (not glass) and it has a few of the instruments on it but I have quite a ways to go to fill up the empty spots.

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and I look forward to learning from this Forum and to maybe even posting some tips that I may pick up along the way.

    Now.....where does this wire go?

Welcome. There is a LOT of information. I've been working on an MD-82 project (still in very early stages, and I've not actually posted a "I'm here" post even yet), but you'll find a LOT of good information. This forum really helped me to understand what kinds of things I would be looking at, and a few options for those who wish to go to the TRUE steam gauge route.

There is a LOT of stuff listed on E-Bay now for L-1011s too. Check with user "aircraftstock", as they must have just scrapped an L-1011, and I think there are a couple First Officer seats that have been through lately as well, and the seller MAY have pilot seats as well.

Just some stuff that may help. Good luck!! It's sure to be an adventurous route. I know that the MD-82 has had its own set of challenges relating to the fact that a good 65-70% of projects are Boeing related (737-767), and a bulk of the rest are Airbus. So anything "outside the grain" requires a bit of creativity. if there is any way I can help, let me know. Additionally, I believe there are 1-2 others working on L-1011s as well. It is sure to be an expensive project over time, but at least there are a lot of parts available in this timeframe!!
