    Unhappy Application Crashes

    Hi All

I am getting consistent application crashes in FSX. Can be ten mins into a flight or 30 mins - seems totally random. These are since Windows 7 was loaded (fresh install of all progs)

    Programs running on FSX PC

    FSX
    FSXpand
    FSmap
    Serial FP2 drivers

    Spec:

    quad core
    4Gb ram
Nvidia 8600GT 1Gb ram (latest Video drivers loaded)
    The Dreaded Windoze 7.

Screens freeze, sound remains operational and of course locks comms with other PC running FSclient.

Any help appreciated -= need to fly!

    Richard

Try with setting the screensaver and related powersaving settings off

I had this happening -- did some research and the suggested culprit was the sound drivers, of all things. I updated to the latest Soundblaster drivers (and added the "Alchemy" part) and it seems to have cured it. I also tried disabling the Soundblaster card and using the on-board sound with the latest drivers for that, and that seems to work too -- with no loss of sound quality that I can notice (I'm not using it for hifi music), so I stuck with that.

The only time I seem to get FSX hanging is very occasionally when doing night flying. But I've always had that -- with XP, Vista and Win7. Some sort of night-time scenery problem I think. Luckily I rarely fly at night because of eyesight problems -- I'm bad enough in daylight!

    Regards

    Pete

I had that happen a few times (and now that I think of it, it was at night every time too). What I did was press Alt+Ctrl+Del, start the Task Manager and then close the Task Manager. It always allowed FSX to resume.
Note: This was with Vista 32 Ultimate.

Interesting! I'll try that next time it hangs during night flying (if I dare try it again! ).

    Re: Application Crashes

    Hi Folks

No power savings on, so not that.
Sound drivers are ok, so not that.

I believe it may have been the graphics card driver. Windows 7 installs its own driver and it is difficult to get it to accept any other driver (even the manfacturers) as Windows says it has the best driver. Got the Nvidia drivers for Win 7 off their site and installed, and "so far" no crashes (other than bad landings).

Don't tend to do night flights so not sure, but will put it through it's paces over the weekend and let you know.

Thanks for all your kind replies.

    Richard
