    Future of MS FS?

Well it is now app one year ago when we heard the bad news of the development team of the MS FS?

My question is does anybody heard some new rumours about the future?
Perhaps MS mad now a plan to continue. What is the next milestone?

I am looking forward to you answers.

I think Aerosoft is working on a new simulator. And if you think about all their excellent addons this could be a very interesting way to go!!!

Maybe Cascade game foundry. They have some of the Aces team in their group. Would be nice if someone who would listen could pick up MSFS.

Happy New Year to all !!

    Hi Per,

you are correct. Aerosoft is working on a new FS. The goal is 2012 and they have forum in place where all simmer can give their comments and wishes.
It is interesting what they are building.

    Re: Future of MS FS?

AeroSoft in my view will be the sim of all sims, I hope that the platform will be more cpu friendly and will accommodate 'basic pc specs' at the time of release and that it's not CPU intensive just to good play out of it.

It will also need to be able to be developed and future proof and provide an interface with offsets for developers and cockpit builders. I think that flight simulator software developers need to accommodate cockpit builders needs and have us in mind so that we can easily connect our equipment and expand.

Other than that I think Aerosoft will be a winner, not too sure what Cascade will offer and that it will not be just a similar looking FSX platform.....

    Re-design 2004 for the future...that's what I say....fs9 always a classic!

    Post Future of the Flightsimulator

    Hi Alex,

I found a very interesting podcast of an interview with Mathijs Kok (Chief developer of Aerosoft. You find this 1 hour interview on:
    http://www.fsbreak.net/podcast/25

This interview show a lot of background of the scene. And where the problems are.

In July2009 they finished 60% of the new FS.

I am really looking for to this sim.

I have a question, when are you guys planning to start with the new simulator?
When would this simulator be finished (appoximately 1 year or 2 years?)?

We will not start until we are as sure as can be it will work, it's a massive investment.
But development time is scheduled to be 18 months at least.
With regards, Mathijs Kok (on behalf of Aerosoft)

    Re: Future of MS FS?

I just hope they finally come up with a decent work flow for regular 3d model makers to use this time. I can produce real live fully conforming DirectX files, games using DirectX can use them; but can flight sim use them? No, of course not. For FlightSim, MS broke the very standard they laid down in the first place. Simply astonishing!

I'd be very happy to make loads of models for Flightsim, but that largely broken antique legacy work flow has stood in the way of that for far too many years now. I know I'm not alone in seeing it that way either. I've got a decade and nearly two tied up in a real 3d modelling system, and it's cost many, many thousands down those years, so it's simply unrealistic to expect someone to bin all that just to give away decent models, and also struggle with an unfamiliar tool set, which would probably result in the models probably not being quite as good as one's favoured tools would. Does not have to be an "open" solution, just a capable working one.
