    Feds arrest illegal simpit business

Just saw this. This sort of pisses me off because it's just going to make things all the more harder for others doing legitimate warbird simpits in the future:

How irresponsible, especially when you are selling the machine guns as well.

If you going thru the right channels,
You have no problems to purchase aircraft parts,
But after 9-11 they have raised the weapon/terrorist act, so some articles are not for sale or forbidden.

Re: Feds nab people for illegal cockpits simpit business scheme

I know that it is getting harder to get parts now because of this sort of thing even for Boeing bits. Some unscrupulous idiots were buying old parts that had failed their airworthiness tests, then these people were forging the papers and reselling as an airworthy part.

They do us no favours. Even we are not safe in our hobby from these idiots who spoil it for money!

"grab your parts while you can". lol

I pity those who get caught with those parts. At best they lose their purchases and probably do not receive payments for the items. At worst, they are charged as conspirators for having knowingly purchased illegal parts. Either way, it's a bad thing to get caught stealing government property.

Wonder why Miller didn't get a scrap dealer license? Most likely just filling out an application and paying a fee. That would have made it legal, as they were being sold for scrap.

Re: Feds nab people for illegal cockpits simpit business scheme

Being "scrapped" doesn't mean being sold in complete components. These scrappers are given specific instructions on what to do with components. Items of a sensitive nature like the avionics of the F-14 and F-18, Army night vision, body armor, and NUMEROUS other items are not authorized for resale to civilians at ALL. Each part would have a demil category, and I believe that the bulk of the avionics from the military is listed as a category d, which means it is to be scrapped (completely melted down), and not sold as components.

A lot of these things like the body armor should be avoided if they have NSN numbers on there, as they are improperly handled. They actually did a DoD study a while back where undercover CID agents went online to auction sites and other vendors to attempt to illegally purchase these components.

The results of the study were extremely disturbing. They were able to acquire F-14 weapons systems (the tracking part, not the missiles), newest line night vision, body armor, etc. That is why you're seeing it getting a LOT harder to acquire military surplus.
