    Re: Pilot Seat

Thinking about cockpit's seats, i'm between 2 solutions.
The first is to buy car's seats, they are not so expensive and i can find (at least the FO's) with up/down mechanism to control the high.

The second solution is to make them from wood, like IAN's designs.

Both solutions demand a mechanism to move them back/forward and left/right to giving space between them and pedestal.

Car's seats have these rails for back/forward and i will place them over a wood box. But what about side movement. Does anyone has another solution for left/right?

    Thanks

    Re: Pilot Seat

    think about this eddie.....
my seats are bolted to a wooden frame. under the frame are 4 strong castor wheels with rubber tyres.
because i can't fit J rails in my floor, what i did was to work out from the 'locked' position, the angle at which the seats could be moved back which just happened to be 45 degrees.
so i fixed the castor wheels at 45 degrees to the seat.
so instead of sliding back and then sideways, they move back at 45 degrees.
the F/O mves back to the right and the Capt to the left. great solution and plenty of room to get in and out.......
    hope that helped you out...
    regards from wales....... ian

    Re: Pilot Seat

If your looking at using Car seats I would see if you can find lorry/truck seats. They are narrower and have a better profile for airliner seats

    Re: Pilot Seat

in the absence of webber seats, then car seats are fine.
but in europe, look for Ford Transit van seats. as well as having an adjustment for height,
the single ones also have an armrest and are usually covered in grey fabric
    cheers ... ian

    Re: Pilot Seat

I made my seats on the basis of the plans which Ian shows on his site, but altered them to a more 737-NG-like look. As you plan your seats, you go thru so many options you could realise, which you can´t, if you use car seats. So I would recommend to style your own seats. It´s a lot of fun! Depending on the tools you have, you can use wood (MDF, plywood) or even aluminium or wood combined with alu.
    I tried a j-rail mechanism - shown here: http://www.mycockpit.org/photopost/d...6/P1030173.JPG
http://www.mycockpit.org/photopost/d...6/P1030175.JPG - but it is not the final version.

This is a nice addition which can give a super look to a Van seat.

    Re: Pilot Seat

Thank you all for your replies and ideas about seats!!

I'm thinking to proceed with car sears as they are easy to find and in good price (i found before 1 month, in good condition, a pair from Opel Astra for 140euros)
Maybe track seats will be better, will see...... depends on availability....

Then i will mount them over a MDF box-base and use IAN's tip.

    regards
