    Project Natal

    Hey Guys

I occasionally play Call of Duty and Halo with friends on Xbox 360 and while those are 'games' compared to FS, I get great pleasure out of playing them and I like following the technological progress that console games bring to the table. My console buddies told me about Project Natal and what it's all about and so I went and checked it out on YouTube. What I saw there was beyond unbelievable. This technology goes way beyond the Wii system of physical interaction with a game system and I encourage you guys to visit the links below to see what Im talking about.

Before I post the links, ponder for a moment what this kind of technology could do for flight simulation (and simulation in general). Specifically the Voice Recognition aspect. This technology of voice recognition is way above and beyond the current SAPI system of MS on our desktop PCs. If this kind of VR could be implemented into a flight sim, ATC would be light years ahead of VoxATC and other VR programs.

    Watch this one first:

and then for more 'meat' on what's going on:

This is amazing, I cannot believe what I see. Great technology and interaction. Indeed Tomlin, if we could have this in our cockpits.

Many thanks for posting these links.

    Great find eric,
but this is truly scary technology. in game application it is unbelievable potential however the capabilities on other applications are terrifying to put it mildly WOW. That is some insane program. I just hope it stays in gaming realm but of course it wont! And if you truly dont know what I am referring too Ill allow you to remain innocent and naive you'll be happier not knowing.

    Re: Project Natal

If that technology can work as is shown, with simplicity that could be used everywhere for a whole range of uses.

Who developed it? ... I'm guessing it wasn't microsoft although if it's being introduced onto the Microsoft XBox 360 then..

That technology has truly shocked me, i wasn't expecting anything like that kind of development for at least another 10 years.

    Props to the development team.

    Re: Project Natal

But look at this (earlier and original) video of Project Natal before they remade the video.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2r9cKjNQe4&feature=fvst

    Look at the delay rate!

The newer videos for project natal are highly exaggerated as the delay is much worst in the flesh than it appears.

This delay in FS would put a lot of people off!

This is just old playstation eyetoy technology in my view!

    Re: Project Natal

For everything apart from the delayed movement response I think is good.

But as for controlling aircraft, how does controller-less technology fit in?

I can understand your point with voice recognition etc, but as to controlling aircraft you will still need and forever more physical controls.
